1 - Marc-Andre ter Stegen

The best case scenario now that everybody said MATS will be in front of Tek is that Tek doesn't renew, we bring a new keeper and Flick gives a fair chance to the new keeper and plays him if he's better than MATS. Knowing this club that won't happen, MATS will play regardless of his preformances like he did for a decade.

It's not impossbile they'll just promote Astralaga or some shit like that. Can't see them spending a lot of money for a backup gk.

Yes. If Tek doesn't want to stay then bring in Joan Garcia and let them fight. Joan should win out thanks to youth, motivation, reflexes and most goalkeeping traits that keep the ball out of the goal. Besides, Stegs is fragile so he may get injured again and we won't have a Tek to bail us out this time. It would be Astralaga, Yakoob or Kochen without signings.

Let's hope we don't go cheap with someone like Mio Baukhaus who would put absolutely no pressure on Stegs, and someone who Stegs himself will probably try to daddy as if he is Andres Kopke Neuer die Illgner Kahn, and not Mr Freeze.

Basically, what happens at goalkeeper will hugely show our true financial status this Summer.

Instead of celebrating that his reign of terror may be over, we should be asking serious questions as to how it was allowed to go on for so long.

Horrible performances like the one against Villarreal have been commonplace for Mats for at least the last 6 years. And not once have they thought he wasn't good enough for Barca.

Even part time plastic Barca fans, who think Cruyff is a yearly dog show, have been saying for years he is a problem.

Yet it takes another disasterclass after suffering what would be for most goalkeepers his age, a career ending injury, to convince them they need a new goalkeeper ??

The only conclusion we can make from this debacle is that our Sporting Department are a bigger problem than even Ter Stegen himself.

This club does not rate the goalkeeper position that much other than the ability to play it out of the back. Simple as that. Everyone involved in the club is either part of the Cruyff era or Pep era. The mindset that our goalkeeper should even have much to do does not exist.

That's why we only win the CL when we are head and shoulders above everyone else. Either we dominate completely or bust. No shot we win a CL with 4 vs. 24 shots with our GK putting in all-time performance like Courtois at Real. It's never going to happen because Barca scouts don't even know what to look for in a GK other than his passing and sweeping.

I have to agree with that.

I didn't follow Zubi here, but since the late 90's the list of GK we had was awful until Valdes, to the extent that Laporta campaign promises was Beckham and Rustu. A free agent GK that had only great WC in his career.

Since then we counted on Valdes. and in his two tenures Laporta only signed Pinto and Tek as GK signing, both due to injury of the starting GK with a very bad second GK.

Pena is better than him imo. Tek is clearly better. Stegen was a 6-7/10 keeper in his better days, now he is full blown football Al-Qaeda.

Seeing posts from 2015, even the ones who semi rated him realized early on something is fishy with him.

Old Claudio Bravo is the best keeper this club had in 25 years. Let that sink in for a moment. This is how much the club fucked up in an area all other elite clubs consider vital.

Don’t think Pena is better than Ter Stegen. Maybe he is in certain areas dunno.

But to me clear and a bit shocking is that he doesn’t fall much behind.

It just reinstills the idea that Ter Stegen is not that unexpendable. Which he wants you to believe.

For sure better. No doubt at all for me. Pena in his time between the sticks never once looked like Charlie Chaplin doing a pantomime act this season.
Pena made a blunder or two as well.

I remember the Rodrygo freekick. Reacted too late. And even if you disagree there, there have been 1 or 2 other instances.

Overall he did well considering his height and lack of playtime.

Pena could be better. But not proven yet based on what he has shown. Remember Ter Stegen up until his injury this season looked pretty solid.

But been clowning in last 2 games he got to play.

Pena made mistakes. Few and over many games. Stegen is providing social media comic material almost every other game he plays.

As said Ter Stegen looked very solid up until his injury.

Would need to see more gametime from pena before I can say hes better or not.

Marc might turn to be worse after this last injury, but in the past 2 years no doubt he was far ahead of Pena. That isn't anything of complement to him either, Pena was absolute shit last year, and this season he upgraded himself into just a meh GK.
