Letting in that free kick was woeful indeed, and he has made more mistakes as of late too. But I can assure you that he's usually a lot better than that. Any good keeper can have a bad match, or even several. Ter Stegen has had some as well, as has any keeper.

But why? Have you seen him play often? Any particular matches of him that made you shudder? I don't really understand why a lot of people are so negative about this potential transfer.

Come on, Cillessen is not that bad. He's usually really consistent, but not spectacular. His reflexes aren't special, but he's usually really composed and solid, and more than decent with the ball at his feet. Lately he's been out of sorts a bit, but he should be a decent back-up imo. He fits...

He has been quite crappy for Ajax lately, so a chance of scenery might do him good. Doubt Boro is the right move though: talents like him don't tend to do well in weaker PL sides. Just look at Berghuis: quite decent for AZ, less than 200 minutes of playing time for Watford in a full season iirc...

Karsdorp is decent indeed; still like Janmaat better as an attacking right back though. Tete and Veltman, on the other hand, are defensively better than Karsdorp, so I don't know if he'll get a chance in the national team soon.
