    Has Player Quality Declined?

From what I have seen of Federer, he's definitely like the Messi or Maradona of tennis; he's a genius with the ball/racket, and can do things that very few other players can do. From an eye test/qualitative standpoint, he makes the game worth watching. He might not always win, though he has won...

    Euro 2024

I think they did that in previous Euros. Had three games some days for round of 16. At 2, 5 and 8 (UK time). They clearly see it as more balanced having 4 days times 2 games, plus it's closer to the evening in Europe so better for the fans and TV ratings. What they could have done is spaced...

    Has Player Quality Declined?

Exactly, said it many times. Intelligence and critical thinking skills are more important in analysing football, than actually being good at football. For instance, Ferguson, Pep (great player but not an all-time great) and Mourinho are miles better managers and coaches than Maradona or Pele...

Lol at referring to yourself in the third person too, class A shithousery.

    Tennis

As an extremely casual fan of tennis (know the best players, like how fun it is, but never watch it) this made me laugh. It's friendly and inviting as well as condescending at the same time. It seems like Novak vs Roger is like Ronaldo vs Messi - one has stats and sheer numbers going for him...

    Euro 2024

I know, but nothing is up to the fans to decide - doesn't stop millions of fans talking football on the internet and in pubs, though. That pedantry aside, I have mixed feelings, as my comments on recent pages will attest to. I do agree though that the overall quality in European international...

    Has Player Quality Declined?

I think the likes of R9 finds football boring now because it is more methodical and regimented. In his day there was less pressing, less coaching players within an inch of their lives, and more room for magic and off the cuff stuff. This was possibly even more true in the 90s and the 2000s than...

    Euro 2024

I wouldn't even consider that an upset. Switzerland are a very solid team and the Italians don't have the players of years gone by. Plus the Swiss eliminated France in Euro 2020, admittedly it was an unbelievable game but it shows they can beat decent teams.

    Euro 2024

Yeah I know. But I just picked them out randomly as they were so bad in this tournament. They also haven't qualified for a Euros since 2000 until this year I believe, so it's not like they have loads of credit in the bank and recent past performance in this tournament. I totally agree about the...

    Euro 2024

True, they aren't worse teams. But that's tournament football - lesser teams will sometimes prevail and better teams will sometimes go out. That's how it works when the sample size is so small (3 games) - luck and moments become a bigger factor. For example, Georgia are a worse team than Serbia...

    Euro 2024

They could do the group winners and two best runners up as said. Obviously the likes of France and England would be more switched on from the start, but if that was the format, France would be out, Austria would be through, and England could have come close to being out too. Lots of jeopardy...

OK fair enough. Hard to tell sarcasm on here or jokes in written form. I apologise. But on a serious note, I do agree with you - other than the format. I just am not sure about third place qualifiers as it has ruined many of the round 3 games.

Why you having a go you bellend? I have been defending the smaller teams - read my posts properly... The point I am making is the FORMAT. Third place qualifiers can dilute the group stage. I even just said I would prefer even more teams to 24 for that reason. Also I don't even support...

    Euro 2024

I guess I am in a bit of both then, because I really enjoy seeing the lesser teams get a chance but prefer the more symmetrical format of 16 teams. You could go to 32. Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Irelands, Bosnia and a couple of others could add to the tournament. Then have top two qualify...

    Euro 2024

It's not about winning for these smaller nations. if Slovakia were to make a QF (unlikely but you never know with how England are playing) it would be like winning it for them. They're already ecstatic at making it into the knockout stage, even if it in third place Ultimately only one team can...

    Euro 2024

I know what you mean, but at least they're giving it a go despite being inferior teams. It cannot always be about Spain, Germany, France etc. But overall I would much prefer it to go back to 16 teams (won't happen). Or skip the round of 16 and do group winners and two best runners up go...

    João Félix

He has good technique but is essentially just not that good a player. He is one of those players who is hyped to the moon as a young player then flatters to deceive until he retires.

He is an absolute clown. I still enjoyed the game though. Both Turkey goals were lovely. Loved how Calhanoglu sliced across that finish when most would have tried to curl the ball in. It let him fade it away from the goalkeeper's reach.

On the other hand, the smaller teams have been enthusiastic and the likes of Georgia, Romania, Slovakia and others have been a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed Czechia v Turkey, especially the second half.
