The decline of number 9s would appear to be a by-product of wing forwards being the in thing since Messi, Ronaldo, Robben, Salah, Bale etc all came about. Tactically, it is easier to score and create goals from these positions in the modern game, rather than through the centre.

I said he was doing ok - with the caveat his goalscoring is good. His all-round game, with a few exceptions, is generally poor to average. He has showed a few great passes and touches this season, but so will every player. He cannot do it consistently.

He's just awful, but people will go on about his 'goal record'. Anybody who has ever played football is familiar with that guy in your team who gets goals but is absolutely useless in every other aspect of the game. A liability. I have played with them.
