    Xavi Hernández

Good result, but not ideal to win this way against a team in the relegation zone. Barca have had a great run in the league for a little while but Betis and Sociedad are still in the hunt for the top 4. And Barca will still play both of them. Can't get complacent at all.

    Thank you Koeman.

    Clément Lenglet

He has always been prone to picking up yellow cards and giving away penalties. Should move on from him as soon as possible.

    Ernesto Valverde

Valverde outperformed expectations in the league. He might have even done better in the Champions League if Neymar stayed or Barto's board made better transfers. I've definitely improved my opinion on Valverde since his firing. But, he played boring spineless football. He might've gotten better...

I guess it is a wait and see approach if we are hinging MATS's status as a world class keeper on if Xavi and the board decide to keep him or bring someone else in as a starter.

Your use of pure goalkeeping seems to imply that distribution, passing, and ball playing ability aren't pure. Perhaps you meant shot stopping ability. Even then, he is conservatively in the top 5 among that list currently.

Yes most GKs would but many wouldn't be able to execute much on those passes. Donnarumma is pretty young. Doesn't seem like his youth coaches got the memo.

If Xavi or the board move to replace him in the summer, you might have a point in that he isn't a top keeper and has been a liability. But I don't see that happening and there have hardly been any rumors linking Barca to a new keeper, unlike with other positions. When Barca moved to replace...

Most of them were when he was forced to play longball for a static Barca side under Valverde, Setien, and Koeman too. This Barca side under Xavi, post Christmas break, has been far more mobile and have more separation from the opposition. Allows for MATS to make better passes that are less...

Get with the times. The job of the GK has evolved and encompasses several more skills. His ball playing ability is elite and his other skills range from very good to elite as well(aside from maybe handling crosses/corners).

I would actually prefer that you rate him as the best GK in the world. That would make me content, though I'd settle for top 2. Ter Stegen actually makes less mistakes than many other world class keepers when you consider how involved he is in the Barca buildup. Others would constantly be...

Marc's defence force is just pointing out that several of his critics live in a bubble and are totally unaware of how frequently Mendy, Alisson, Courtois, and Neuer make mistakes.

    Ernesto Valverde

I remember reading an article after the tie stating that one of Liverpool's coaches/scouts noticed how long Barca was taking to set up against defending corners. That is on the Barca coach to identify and fix that issue.

Mendy is in his 3rd season for a big club. Give him some time. He'll have his compilations too if he can cut it at a top club for as long as MATS.

But MATS doesn't make mistakes at more of a frequency than other keepers. That's the point. You could watch full games of other top keepers and they all have some shortcomings and lol-worthy errors at roughly the same frequency

He is poor in the air (by top keeper standards), but he is much more comfortable playing the ball with his feet compared to many keepers. A vital skill for Barca keepers and he excels at it.

But all the keepers I have compared to MATS are keepers that several users on this forum have mentioned as being much better. I'm just pointing out the fact that all keepers, even top keepers, make errors or are left frozen by shot attempts. Grass is not greener on the other side.

Once again, let it be said that this forum wouldn't spare the rod for MATS if he committed the gaffe that "best keeper in the world" Mendy did against Madrid.

    Ernesto Valverde

The corner taken quickly moment against Liverpool defines Valverde. Lack of attention to details and unable to get the team to be in position against corners. That moment is a stain on Valverde's career and I'm sure other clubs remember how he didn't have his team drilled well enough.
