Not allowed to give weak passes? Everybody that puts risk in their game give weak passes at times. There are plenty of Barcaplayers today that are not impressive and give even worse passes. At least Afellay had a great pass on Messi, a good run on the sideline, 2 shots on goal and worked hard...

Villa already had experience with most Barca keyplayers in the Spanish squad. So he had an advantage over other new players. Also he came from Valencia (same league, same language, etc.). I agree with what is said above. We can overanalyze 20 minutes of play, but will that amount of playtime...

I really felt that he wasnt as nervous in Camp Nou compared to the first 10 minutes he got. You could also see him continiously asking for the ball. Thats not a sign of someone being nervous. A nervous player will be afraid to make a mistake and thus try to 'hide' on the pitch.

I agree with you that the subs still need to make steps to challenge Peps 1st choices for the starting line-up. I do think that Afellay is still in the running for the creative part of the midfield. I also think that Barca eventually will get Fabregas as a replacement for Xavi.

So you think that after this introduction period Afellay won't play at all.

I agree. Im surprised that he is the nr1 sub after just two weeks of training. He needs to make use of the minutes he gets and train hard, its simple as that. If Afellay really wants to move up the ranks, he needs to score goals or at least cause real damage in the opponents 16.
