    5 - Carles Puyol

He most likely will. He's a legend, but unfortunately he's almost always injured these days, and we can't rely on him any more.

I suppose Sakho would be better than nothing, but that's not saying much. He'd still be bad. Unless Tata's able to keep his attitude in check.

    Gerardo "Tata" Martino

Yeah, I also think signing a youngster with potential could be our best option now. There aren't that many experienced world class CBs available.

If we don't get a CB, Zubi should be sacked.

I'd rather not sell Alves, simply because we don't have time to find a replacement. Montoya's good enough to start, imo, but him alone for the RB spot is not enough, we need depth.

Yeah, if we're not gonna get a world class CB, we should at least get a potential one like Doria. Better than getting, say, Mathieu, who's 29 and will probably never be a starter. Also, someone like Doria probably won't start immediately, but I can see him taking Puyol's spot as early as January.

He'd certainly be better than nothing... or Mathieu.... He'd probably be better for us than Luiz too. And he's a lot younger and costs a third of what Luiz does... I also think we should try N'Koulou or Zouma. The former is Ligue 1's second best CB (and pretty young) and the latter is a highly...

Nah, Bayern are still favorites. We're second favorites at best. And that's a big maybe. It depends on how good this team (especially Tata) turns out to be. I'm pretty confident we'll be better than we were last season though.

    Martin Montoya

Selling him wouldn't be a good idea (not enough time to find a replacement, etc), but Montoya should start IMO (especially considering that the other fullback is Alba). Even if Alves is a slightly better player, Montoya's better defensively.

Puyol is 35 now, he's nowhere near as good as he used to be. We can't rely on him for big games, especially considering his (and Pique's) lack of pace and our high line. And if Mathieu isn't good enough to start over Puyol in the big games, he's not what we need, as I said before. Of course...

Transfers and Rumours - old thread

If he's not good enough to start over a 35 year old Puyol, then he's not what we need, as far as I'm concerned. Again, we need a starter, not a 3rd/4th choice.

Transfers and Rumours - old thread

We'll be exposed far less often with the pressing back, but we will still get exposed from time to time. And when we do, I'd rather have a world class CB at the back than Masch, Mathieu or a 35 year old Puyol (and it'll probably be one of the first 2 since Puyol's always injured). Or at least...

Transfers and Rumours - old thread

In the Pep era, our starting CB duo was Pique/Puyol, both of whom were world-class then, unlike now. The pressing helped greatly, especially when they were missing, but we had a great CB duo. In Pep's last year, the pressing was still there (it wasn't as good as it was in his first 3 years, but...
