There is a bit of a lower league teams hipster movement to be fair.

It's in the minority, but it's a trend none the less.

Similar in gaming with Indy versus triple A titles.

While there would be more and more folk going to EPL stadiums if capacity allowed.

Far more than any hipster movement of folk going to lower leagues.

A lot of that is happening due to the huge popularity of EPL etc anyway as clubs can drive up ticket prices and still largely fill stadiums.

Only demand allows that.

Wammy wouldn't know though. Just exposed his total lack of ground roots footballing knowledge.

Of course EPL stadiums are overbooked, fans are not going for entertainment WHICH IS WHAT THE DISCUSSION IS ABOUT. They are there for socials. Half are on phone at most exciting moment of match ( when a goal is scored )

To say fan demand to go to stadium is the only barometer in evaluating football ENTERTAINMENT levels is an absolute terrible, out of touch, argument.

Quick 2 second search. Can find thousands of similar if need to.

Not even bothered to read anything but main comment as know they will agree with me.

You are clearly wrong, but are going to dig heels in and strawman until I back down. I'll do you a favour and end discussion here.

I'm oot.

Main comment

" My and a few of my friends go to Old Trafford often to games. I was speaking to one of my mates the other day and he was saying he is fed up of all the phones at the game. When United are in the final third, have a corner, free kick etc. everyone gets their phones out to record it and he argued that it takes away from the atmosphere and being in the moment.

I personally don't mind it, I understand for some people going to a game is once in a lifetime if you live on the other side of the planet and you want to capture as much as possible, so for me a local who goes regularly It is easy to say that. But part of me does agree with him as I have been to games and people are not interested in the match, how we are playing, how we are set up etc. they only seem interested in getting a video of a goal for social media.

What do you think of phones in the stadium? Should they be banned? Or should there be a special phone free section of the stadium? "

Well sure, hence being a minority trend. As you say EPL ticket prices are going up and there is demand for that.

BUt at the same time local fans have embraced their more niche local clubs for an alternative football experience. In Barcelona alone teams like Europa and Sant Andreu are hitting that niche.

Haha Jammy you've had an absolute nightmare there, you absolute whopper .

The two top games in Scotland today produced 11 goals. Celtic 2 nil down came back to win 3-2. Rangers 2 - 1 down against Hearts came back to win 4 -2. ( Can't remember the last time that happened between the Top 2 in the EPL. )

No parking the bus.
No negative/cowardly tactics.
No time wasting.
No reliance on set pieces.
No mobile phone merchants in the crowd there only for their social media.
Best atmosphere in Britain with full engagement in the game from the crowd.
Old school, gung ho, all out, proper attacking football.

10 out of 10 for FOOTBALL ENTERTAINMENT, which is what was the object of the discussion, not what league has higher attendance, largely due to social media clout chasers.

No at all you numpty.

The exact point is more goals does not make for better or more exciting league folk want to watch.

Quality of players, coaches and what is at stake all matter more.

Try again numpty.

Watching a bum fight in SPL between three shite teams is not the excitement you think.

You come across as a Rangers fan. Have that full on twat about you.

Have to disagree. Attacking football with many goals is always eye catching.
Would wager Bundesliga resurgence in the 90s was largely based off teams starting to play more attacking football. They managed to stop bleeding their top players to Serie A too.

Obviously great fans + domestic economy was a great factor too.

But doesnt make shitter leagues better to watch.

More goals in Conference League wont make it more exciting or better watch than CL.

Quality of players, coaches and what is at stake all matter even if good sides can cancel one another out. Still more at stake and better watch and will get more wanting to watch it.

I explained clearly that what I was debating was football entertainment and your answer was the strawman that EPL games are sold out ( despite the fact that I'd already proved that a large reason for that is social media clout chasers. )

I then put FOOTBALL ENTERTAINMENT in capitals so you would understand, but you came up with another strawman that goals don't equal football entertainment.

You are now gatekeeping football entertainment and claiming that I was not entertained today. Well, let me re- iterate, in capitals again, so you know what to strawman in advance : THE TWO GAMES IN SCOTLAND TODAY ENTERTAINED ME FAR MORE THAN ANY TWO SUPER SUPER SUNDAY EPL GAMES THIS SEASON.

Anybody who watched those two games would agree. If Porqué did , let's hear his view.

And no I'm not a Rangers fan, am not even Scottish. It's just a fact that I have more knowledge and love for Scottish football than a purported Scotsman does. :tata:
