Pique has always had the benefit of Barca midfield controlling possession in most games. But against good teams, he often got exposed. Also, he was mostly useless on corners unlike Ramos for example.

Also, there is a reason Pep wanted to get rid of Pique according to some sources.

Cubarsi is amazing for his age but people are sleeping on prime Pique (2010-15)

This guy, especially in 14-15, had the best CB season I’ve seen since 05 onwards.

Only 37 goals conceded in 60 games (record in modern era) in the 14-15 treble season, under his defensive leadership. Alves and Masche were aging, and Alba was attack minded.

The last classic Pique year would be 2021/22 season under Xavi. The team had great period and Pique was standout. He was injured and the entire defense fall apart.

Been some controversy with regards to his statement, and while I can see his POV due to the historical, political and cultural significance Barca have for Catalunya and Catalan nationalism, it's also these local Catalan fans that sold 30k of their tickets to Frankfurt fans in what was one of the most shameful scenes I have ever seen at Camp Nou.
