Because our club is too proud to hold a player against his will.

Legendary Cruyff quote: "If you have second thoughts about playing for Barcelona, you are no longer of service to us"

But not all clubs operate like this.
And this is it Loki, I've been a Barca fan for over 30 years and probably that has put some ideals in me that can be seen as "unconventional" - but Cruyff was/is right - that's why I'm a die-hard fan of this amazing club ❤️

Newcastle are a CL side which FFP are restricting what their owners can pump in and becoming a modern club as big as Liverpool, City etc.

They want to protect their interests. People didn't mind when PSG done this with Baguette or Nipples with Osimhen.
They protect their "interest", Pool' is willing to pay 150M for Isaak and he probably had some verbal agreement. But sure, legally Newcastle are in their right - but Isaak won't help them for shit and 150M for Newcastle owner is like a Coke Zero to me...

Also, "proud" is not the correct word I think - it's simply quite logical and rational that a player who believes in the idea of a club and its history and vision will give all they have and than some more. Still, Newcastle are contractually in their full right to do what they're trying to do - but they have zero "fingerspitzengefühl"... Shearer days for sure ain't coming back if they act like bitches about Isaak.

And these things are always on a case to case basis. But I know some people who actually know Isaak - he really seems like an honest and uncompromising person.

Newcastle statement: https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/alexander-isak-statement-190825

Sell those Camp Nou prison walls to Newcastle. They will fit perfectly. Prison FC. Nobody's escaping that prison. Just like PSG.

I think Isak is saying that Newcastle verbally allowed him to go, and went back on their word.

Which is true, but afaik it was provided that they could sign a suitable replacement.

First option Ekitike, whom Liverpool signed before opening negotiations with Isak

Second option Sesko who chose Man Utd

So whatever statement Isak is releasing now, is disingenuous.

Lick your wounds son, and be paid alot to stay in Toon. It's not that bad there unless you are looking for birds. But then again your demanding a move to Liverpool, so not like that's an improvement.

Actually good point. Good chance Newcastle missed on all their targets and can't let him go now. It would change their opinion of letting him go. Isak can pick nice birds in Sweden tho.

The wording I'm guessing was something along the lines "as long as we get your market value we will let you go". He signed his contract in 2022 and if there ever was a number discussed, it's much different 3 years later so I don't think it's a promise from when he joined.

There was some interest in Isak last year. Maybe that's when the deal was agreed. "Help us get CL spots and then you can leave". During the last season his TM market value increased by 50m. He also demanded a big sum to renew, which could also be when Newcastle rejected and told him he can leave in summer.

Made me think of this vid with Eriksen and Levy

Must be a bit annoying for Eriksen hearing Levy mention over and over how little he thinks 20m is

Make an example out of him. A contract is not a one way street. What a prick. They get a proper replacement, an offer they see as satisfying, and he will probably leave. Until then, be a professional, not a prick. Very disrespectful to his teammates, the manager, the fans, just about everyone involved with the club.

We know from the Neymar 222m that if you don't have a strategy to spend it, and agreements in place before the sale, then you have a good chance of blowing it and it being better to retain the player.

If the c*nt move was from anyone, it was from Liverpool signing Isak's replacement in Ekitike beforehand. I get it, they wanted both, but don't complain when you can't get your two slices of cake and eat them without getting fat.

I don't disagree, even if they gave him a verbal agreement which they walk back on now he should still be professional and his agent do a better job with putting shit like that IN the contract. Sure, he must feel frustrated af - and I do believe Isak is good dude... but a contract is still a contract even if I've played the devils advocate a little bit in this thread. He let his feelings take over, should have played it much more cool - stayed and played without heart for Newcastle and they would probably sell him maybe in the winter window already... BUT, contract or not - these oil-clubs and their owners are different (and Tottenham lol). For us 150M would win us CL, for them it's like a fucking Coke Zero - they give zero fucks while we would be happy to let a player who doesn't bleed Blaugrana go...

So Newcastle forced him to stay because he's under contract - what good is he now to them EVEN if he acts professional, betrayal is still there and he has 0 heart for the club. Both lost, but Newcastle give of "small" club mentality and vengeance - they should have take the 150M. Now they'll have trouble getting talent to the club, but it worked for PSG so who knows...

If 150m is on the table should definitely sell him. As @ZenI says he isn't motivated to play for them anyway and will be going through the motions.

True they will need a replacement. But having no player is better than keeping a bad apple.

They will sell him eventually, but you can't let players act like this, one good season and he goes MIA. If you can afford it and Newcastle can probably, let him sit out for a few months this season. He will get to his senses and until next summer you secure a replacement.

To me, small club mentality would be to let players disrespect you like that without impunity.
