I do think he probably needs a bit of gym work. I know Cahill is strong and Neymar's game is about skill and technique, but he offered practically no physical resistance at all.

Besides the miss I'm confused as why everyone is being so hard on his performance? I think people are way to hard on the kid wanting him to be Messi and it is never gonna happen. I thought his game was decent just like the rest of the Brazil squad. Really hope Barcelona sign this kid this summer, he will be immense once he matures a bit more.

Who ever said we expected him to be the next Messi? FFS he did worse than lucas moura let alone messi.

Think you guys are a little harsh on Neymar. He's got an intelligent footballing mind but his first touch was awful like I mentioned. In particular the shot on goal from Oscar's cross + the one where he got past Cahill. Both great goalscoring chances but he almost looked afraid to do anything. He also made a few other great runs

Also set up Oscar just outside the box, an attempt which Oscar sky'd over the bar.

Neymar is great and all, but integrating into the Barcelona team and style would take a long time, and is not guaranteed to work well with such a flamboyant talent. Barca has the option of playing Cuenca or Tello regularly next season (hopefully not Alexis), while Pedro will be staying on the RW for a while it seems and Villa will be leaving. Then in two or three years time, we'll hopefully have a mature Deulofeu (hey, even Dongou) who's ready to start for the first term.

Ever since Pele opened his dumbass mouth saying he was better then Messi, people have done nothing but scrutinize Neymar.

Having a lackluster game vs England didn't help either.

If people would stop putting so much stock into what anonymous fans who overhype Neymar have to say across the internet, they would watch him objectively and note the positives in his game.

But I will say he looked genuinely withdrawn from that match, almost intimidated.

He was somewhat intimidated, not by the level of opposition mind you, but because he plas against much better players usually, who are paid much less. However, the gaze on a European coming out must be a heavy burden but he is gonna have to learn to cope with this quickly! This is why the right coach is really important.

I know Cahill has been crap at times but I don't think very many sides in Brazil have as strong a backline as England's.

He was more outmatched physically, he needs to put on size to really contend.

He needs to exploit his space more. In Brazil he's very spoiled because he has tons of space

One would think that the Brazilians who are generally regarded as being better technically than the English and better at passing and possession would actually enjoy playing on the large Wembley pitch. That was really not the case. The better players actually enjoy playing on larger pitches because it gives them more space to work with. It was not like Brazil or Neymar were playing at Getafe. Wembley is actually one of the biggest pitches in Europe.

And with this being a friendly, England actually played more offensively and were a lot more adventurous than usual (since it was a game in which they could take risks), this was not the England that played like Chelsea of last year that was ultra-defensive like they were in the Euros. There was plenty of space for Brazil to exploit. It's not like Neymar was being man-marked or double teamed or they loaded up on his side of the pitch when he got the ball (like it happens with Ronaldo whenever he plays for Portugal). England did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary that would result in Neymar in having such a bad game. This was a thorougly inept performance, it was not like he was going up against great defenders either (Cahill or Johnson are not great defenders by any stretch of the imagination). There was not single moment that I remember in this match in which he did anything that could've provide a spark or moment which you could get excited about.

You'd think that playing against a team that was being more adventurous than usual and the larger pitch would actually give more opportunites for Brazil and Neymar to exploit but Oscar really looked like the only player out there was capable of producing anything of note and Lucas Moura when he came on actually livened things up a bit(he actually should've started). At this point in time, Oscar and Lucas actually look like better footballers than Neymar.

That doesn't mean that Neymar doesn't have any talent or skill but with the asking price and media attention + hype, he's really not worth it for Barca. He is by far the most overrated footballer in the world and that is not an exaggeration. There's nothing that i've seen of him either in this match or in previous ones that actually lead me to believe he's anywhere close to the asking price which he is reportedly worth.
