11 - Raphinha

Rapinha fortifies mf with his support in off ball movement and explosiveness.

When on top of not being able to play pedri and Olmo is on pitch with Casado, Raphinha not there is too big of falloff.

Barca will fall way too short of meeting threshold of off the ball movement to substantially increase winning chances.

So even if Raphinha plays bad in terms of chances wasted and contributing little offensively, he is big contributor to not allowing opponent to overrun is and winning ball back more often in dangerous areas.

Loss against Sevilla example of this.

Yamal is bigger drop off.

Loss against Sevilla? Where none of Joan, Balde, Eric, Fermin or Yamal started along with Raphinha.

Also the drop off last night is not just without Raphinha it is without his back up also and Pedri and Frenkie etc according to reports should not even have been playing due to injury that saw him miss training.

When issue is mf overrun cause too many players missing that have biggest contribution in pressing, then Raphinha would be first to improve situation.

If in that game you have already fielded olmo and lewandowski and you have a rashford that didnt defend as much as he does now, then between raphinha and lamine absence, raphinha is going to have better chance at saving mf.

Barca conceded a ton of chances away to likes of Villareal, Rayo and Espanypol with Raphinha in team and Joan Garcia MOTM in all three.

Condeded 2 away to Sparta Prague in last game and they could have got more.

Newcastle as well missed good chances to add to more than one they got.

Even Levante away were 2-0 up and breaking too easily.

Raphinha helps but he is not some fix all either.

This type of result has been coming this season and when Garcia chucks one in at start and against team like Atletico with tales up it happened.

I acknowledged Raphinha has those wasteful games in 2 posts before. But in terms of wanting for type of mf of yesterday having best chances of not being overrun, Raphinha would be player with highest priority of availability. This likely would already change if Pedri were part of yesterdays mf. If it’s a situation in where there are already enough players out there collectively meeting certain threshold of off ball movement other players skillset will become missed more.

None of that is about Raphinha being wasteful. All of the attackers can be as play such a high risk/reward game.

The games mentioned were v worse teams than Atletico who should have scored a lot more than did and took Garcia being MOTM to stop it.

Raphinha being there and still had largely same issues at end of last season and this.

As said the drop is also Raphinha to Rashford to then a player out of position and weakening other areas of team.

Game like this has been coming with and without Raphinha.

The extent to which him playing would stop it is over played as shown in other games but he is clearly missed as any first team starter would be with some more than others.

Yes, I don’t argue this. Know Raphinha is not quick fix and we would have still lost the game.

What I am asking is this: If yesterday you would be able to swap any player that played with one of the pool of players not available excluding raphinha, then first player you’d want available(including raphinha) who would it be?

Obviously only looking at outfield players. Or you might feels ballsy with tek.

Also us scoring 0 goals yesterday maybe telling. Maybe not.

Of anyone missing yesterday then Pedri or Raphinha yes.

Why Pedri? You could swap Casado for Pedri. Then still choose Raphinha.

You are allowed to swap any player that played with player not available that is not raphinha.

Then picking a player including rapinha who would be you think most important for game yesterday.

No idea what you are even trying to say.

Clearly of the players missing yesterday would be Pedri and Raphinha missed more than others.

I am supposing that if any other player was missing yesterday in lieu of other player, first best option would always be to bring in Raphinha ahead of anyone else.
