9 - Robert Lewandowski

I don't think it is as bad as you try and paint it to be. Not in sport, where the only true reference is the athletic performance.

Otherwise, I am certain that in other, non sport aspects of life, it came to the point where playing the racist card has reached the pivotal point where otherwise talented and, more importantly, competent people are blatantly ignored and dismissed over mediocrity driven by things like the Affirmative Action and what is now known as DEI.

I am not going to dwell on this any further
I won't change my mind. I've lived long enough and seen enough to have my own stance on this.
Besides, this is Lewandowski thread and your raging posts, although mostly substantively arguable, they were literary sweet, almost poetic, and cracked me up quite a bit... which is good.
I was just in a raging mood on the Lewandowski thing - I prefer Kane but acknowledge Robert was world-class. It's more that everyone loves him and protects him from criticism that bothers me.

Affirmative action is the other side of the coin, indeed. It's a very delicate balancing act; how do you respect and acknowledge black people, without going the entire other way and overcompensating and apologising for being white? It's a very difficult and sensitive subject.

Rather few soccer events I look forward to these days but I am sure getting ready for tomorrow's semi final...hoping for a good outcome.
RL9 is a tradmark to be remembered for years to come, so assuming this Spanish season is his last, this is his last chance for the tripple crown.
That would be a magnificent year 2026!
Tripple crown and, hopefully, going to the 3rd World cup.
Go Barca! GO!

P.S.
That Fucking covid hoax robbed him not only from Ballon'd Or (that it?) - but that's a vain accolade like most of them... but what is also annoying, it robbed him from the proper decorum of CL win!
That's right!
That season 2020/21 must have been his best ever.
All Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neumar, Halland combined could have done that year was to polish RL9's shoes.

BTW. I never got the jab...fuck you Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and others and fuck all the sheeple that lined up to get it!

He's a ballon d'or winner in my books

We should hope that one day they will give it to him formally too

How people discredit that season just because of Covid is truly incredible. It was played normally up until March or April

He was never a better footballer than Messi. In any season. Noone ever was while Messi played at Barcelona.

If award was for the best footballer.

But it's not. It's about trophies and who had a winning team or whatever.

In 2019/20 he was best in Europe no doubt

He wasn't best footballer but you can't use that argument. If it was like that only Messi would win for like 15 years. That's clearly not how bdor works, unfortunately. Wish there actually was an award for best footballer (best performing footballer)

Best in what then?

He wasn't the best footballer in the world and that was supposed to be the point of award.

It is not though and that's why so many people are getting worked up as it's often left to interpretation. This guy won a cl but that one won league + cup or whatever.

Not a dig at Lewa but let's not forget who was the best footballer in the world this whole time.

The notion of the best footballer in the World has to do with the best performance in a given period of time. Messi and Ronaldo, in absolute - universal terms are better footballers than Lewandowski but during that season, their performance was subpar compared to Lewandowski's.

Perhaps, Tadey Pogacar has been the best cyclist in this decade and will be ... but if Jonas Vingegaard were to win Giro Italia and Tour de France this year, outperforming the Slovenian, he will become the best cyclist of this year and at this particular period of time he'd be called the best in the World.
