Even with Pedri Chelsea would have done the same.

Man marked him and FDJ and show ball to fullbacks/Araujo.

And most likely would have caused a lot of same problems.

That's when the 3rd midfielder comes into play. You know my theory that Pedri should not be a deep build up player to begin with whenever heavy press is involved.

We lack several things. A strong midfielder is another. Raphinha is gonna be different compared to a physically weak player like Torres.

Olmo was a terrible transfer for us.

If you think any player out of Pedri, Fermin, Olmo, Frenkie are anywhere near as physical as Caicedo - Enzo duo for example, that would be hilarious.

Caicedo and Enzo didnt play as a duo.

Enzo was more or less a striker for most of game today and he when plays deeper can get run off a lot.

choosing araujo is by default a mistake and I am pretty sure he won't make it again. its not like we are stacked with great defenders either.

The only advantage Araujo offers is his physique and athleticism. Take away those and he is an average defender.

Which was Fermin who couldnt control ball or have any idea what to do with it.

But still happens due to teams knowing also Barca have no pace up top and at CF while full backs are like rabbits in headlights when pressed.

What should happen is a DM should get signed, paired with De Jong, and Pedri moved up. Similar to how Spain play it.

That doesn't fix all issues, but it improves the situation.

People exaggerate a bit with the praise to both De Jong and Pedri. They are technical players, but they both have some phsycal limitations that are evident at this level. You fix this to a degree by adding a midfielder of outstanding physical pressence.

Spain play Pedri deeper in a two now.

FDJ/Pedri Olmo is Barca best midfield for taking ball in tight games.

But still the reason teams can press them like that is in large part due to how Barca lack pace particularly at CF and how poor likes o Kounde/Araujo and BAlde are when asked to make decisions to pass ball under pressure.

Chelsea were up the arse of Barca all game as no threat at all being caught out with ball in behind.

This. We could use a Palinha type player to add some variation to our midfield.

First of all, these issues have been here even with Pedri this season. Even buildup, especially on that damned left side. Second of all, Pedri and DeJong are terrible off the ball and I seriously think the long term future is with one of them out of it. This season to me they contribute to our inability to actually defend well as a team.

Long-term is a different discussion.

Short-term, Flick plays with 2 at the base. Right now the best 2 to play there are Pedri and De Fraud.
That's not changing.

This. We could use a Palinha type player to add some variation to our midfield.

Not in a million years. The moment someone like him comes to Barca, fans would want him out after a game.
Bernal as DM could work, but that's for the future

Why doesn't anyone who whines on Flick notes that until the red, we had several correct combinations that broke their pressing, and released Balde in space (the left half space) with 3vs 3 or 4 vs 4 situations for us?

Of course, it didn't always work because we had an imbecile in Ferran trying to make correct one time passes

Ferran and Fermin fucked up multiple times that Balde and Frenkie broke game open in first half.

Balde can do it on the dribble.. ask him to pass ball and its a hard watch.

Pedri plays with Zubimendi / Rodri who can actually defend space.

People on here keep saying we got dominated before the red

It's blatant lie. Some people should seriously rewatch the first 20-25 minutes. Chelsea barely sniffed our side of the pitch. Only opportunities they had were offside and handball goals from set pieces

We know Balde can't pass well, but the combinations were set up well to release him in space.

Agree about both Ferran and Fermin. Fermin is overrated because Olmo sucks. Ferran can't play other position than CF, and against teams that are better than midtable LL
