8 - Pedri

Barca that summer signed Inigo, Gundo and Romeu.

For around 32/33m a season on the books.

That would be enough for a 75m DM on 15m a week for example.

Why did they not sign a DM then?

My argument is the same for why Flick didn't sign any defenders this summer after we lost Inigo Martinez. And the answer is obvious.

Actually, Flick is more in the wrong than Xavi was .

Not really.

Flick had rugged pulled from under him with Inigo and Barca do have CBs.

Your argument is Barca had no DM. Xavi wanted one but the club spent more than enough to cover that on other players.

Not the same.

It would be same if I claimed Flick desperately wanted a CB but chose to spend money elsewhere at expense of it.. not being claimed.

Xavi knew exactly what to do with the midfield. He envisioned a midfield 3 with Zubimendi DM, De Jong box to box, and Pedri CM-AM.

That would have been very underwhelming, and wouldn't have allowed a single one of those 3 to play to his full potential

Its just the way Xavi is made out as some visionary because club at one point was linked to Zubimendi...

He inherited a midfield with Busi, Pedri, FDJ, Gavi, Nico, Roberto etc.

To that he signed.. Kessie, Gundogan, Romeu etc who all lasted a season and were fucked off with not even enough to cover their high salaries.

Most likely can be added to list of players Xavi didnt really understand how they played to get most from.

The media were all in on Xavi wanting Rodriguez from Betis as a DM option next.

Spare me this idea Xavi knew importance of players at DM.

Nah that could cook, Zubi can play as a single Pivot He's shown he has the ability.

Pedri is literally play CM now and is the best midfielder in the world.

So it likes one man out.

Just speaking all facts, no cap

Zubimendi doesnt play single pivot for Spain or Arsenal and at Arsenal has been used as the more advanced to Rice at times in that pairing.

Pedri is not best in world at moment.

That would be Vitinha who just out played him and was much better in CL etc.

Pedri was poor v PSG despite the fact some try to frame it as 'Vitinha and Pedri' after that game when not the case.

Good choice.

You are deflecting every direction and not hitting anything.
In some cases, you demonstrate that you have an idea of the topic, but you don't accept other opinions at all. A discussion with you is sometimes exhausting to read and seems pointless.

All this nonsense and it still remains the fact that de jong is the only one that would look totally useless in a 3 man midfield

Fake news.

Was Barcas best midfielder in the run of form in Xavis first season and in the run up to change of formation in title win season.

Gavi is his career hasnt had as good a midfield performance as Frenkie did in that 4-0 win in Bernabeu or the one man midfield to win away to Osasuna in that title win season. Many more examples.

Easily better than likes of Gavi and Xavi knew it hence why played him against Real in league etc in that time.

Gavi was far far more 'usless'.

Frenkie also played in a 3 a number of times in Koeman season. A season he was best player after Messi.

See performance in cup final v Bilbao etc. Top connection with Messi there when in a three being one example there.

Moving on from single pivot is the best thing Flick has done.

Zubi "can" do it, but he is far better in double pivot. Almost no CDM in the past decade is better as single pivot. Even Rodri and Busquets plays better when supported by another CDM (Busi best season since treble was 17/18 with Raki as 2nd pivot, Rodri played great with Stones moving essentially as 2nd CDM).

It is an outdated concept that requires a player that doesn't exist.

That doesn't even touch the fact that both Pedri and Frenkie are better deeply, allowing our build up to improve especially under pressing.

Moving on from a single pivot was done before Flick, because we didn't have a player to play the position; that's the whole point.

That player could be Zubi.

Rodri can play it and excelled at it for multiple seasons.

We definitely didn't use Rakitic as a double pivot; I don't know what you're talking about with that. He was a box-to-box midfielder in a 3-3.

We moved to 2 with busi because he was old and de jong can't play in midfield outside of a double pibot

I don't know what you mean by Pedri playing deep. His heat map for two seasons tells us exactly where he's playing, and that's as a CM, which is the exact same way he would play in a 4-3-3.

You were wrong on basically everything there
