Last four goals of Barca been headers in the box.

It is a big part of Flicks game and has been since last season.. lots of important goals were scored like that.

Barca absolutely need height in this team if want the technical advantage of Cubarsi, Pedri, FDJ, Yamal etc to not be negated due to teams that can dominate balls into box at both ends.

In a team already lacking height the team need a CF focal point who can help in BOTH boxes.

By all means move for Alvarez but if he is the CF Barca are giving a degree on aerial targets in the box when the topm teams are getting bigger and bigger.

Would rather have the bigger CF and Alvarez at Raphinha position or AM if he arrived.

Asked about the teenager at a prematch press conference to preview the PSG UCL league phase tie, Flick said: “I think that this ‘super’, ‘super’... I don't like it. He's exceptional, but there are other exceptional players in the team.”

"He is 18 years old and also has to focus on making an effort. To move to the next level, one or two more steps, you have to make an effort, talent is not enough.

“It’s not just about playing with the ball, it’s also about defending. It’s what we need from all players, not just him. He’s a great player with the ball and that’s what makes the difference,” Flick added.

With his predecessor Xavi Hernandez in the dugout for a spring 2024 quarterfinal second leg loss which tossed Barca out of the competition, Flick insisted he is not out for revenge against his team’s French opposition.

“We are FC Barcelona and we like to be favourites in the Champions League, but we know that it is a very long road and that we have a spectacular opponent in front of us. I’m not thinking about the last match against PSG because we have to focus on this one. The past is different from the present moment. Everything has changed completely,” Flick stressed.

“It’s a different competition. We’re playing against the best in the world. PSG has a great coach and great players. It’s a great challenge,” Flick said.

Both clubs have been hit by injury problems ahead of the encounter. Barcelona will be without Fermin Lopez, Joan Garcia, and Gavi, while PSG are missing key names such as Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Marquinhos, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

On this subject, Flick admitted, “It’s part of our job. We have to know how to manage injuries. This is the situation.”

Despite the setbacks, Flick expressed confidence in his squad depth. “It’s not that I haven’t found the right formula; it’s because I have confidence in the whole team, and there’s a lot of quality. It’s good that it’s like this.

“You see all the injuries there are, and PSG too. We have to manage it well.
“We’re missing important players in midfield, but we have to have confidence in the young players.”

On Wojciech Szczesny, Flick added, “He’s a player with whom we won three titles last season. He’s ready, of course.”

When asked about Barça’s desire for revenge after last year’s painful defeat, Flick kept his focus on the present,

“We are Barça and we’re always among the favourites, but the road is very long and we have to work hard.

“We don’t look at the past; everything has changed: PSG, the players, Barça… We don’t look at the past.”

The German also highlighted Pedri’s importance. “He’s one of the captains, and in his position, he should be one of the leaders.

“I also listen to his opinion, and we talk a lot. It’s important to hear different perspectives.”

Finally, on Marcus Rashford’s adaptation to La Liga, Flick noted, “The Newcastle game was important for his confidence.

“It’s not easy coming from the Premier League and playing in La Liga; everything is different. He’s doing a great job.”

Enrique: "The only thing I want to say is that I have loved this team led by Flick from the beginning, because he brought back the footballing idea that characterizes Barcelona. It is a team I love watching. You know that I am a Socio (club member), I am a fan and I follow all of Barcelona's matches, and it is a team I love watching because it entertains me a lot." #believe

Laporta W.

We know he's coming back, once flick leaves.

The great Joan Laporta doesn't know how to lose.

Managers already auditioning for the job

This is about your only level of input.

Pining for attention.

Its a Laporta win for another coach to think Laportas previous coach was not what Barca need.

Top stuff.

Lucho had absolutely no time for the way Xavi coached Barca.

No wonder he prefers Flick.

Well, we all remember his comments with PSG while facing Xavis Barca. Sadly he was not wrong.

Luis Enrique (in his documentary on Xavi’s Barça last season): “Barça are not a dominant team and they are not a defensively good team. They have no defensive quality. They play long balls. Ter Stegen broke the record for long passes. They play like Eibar.”
