4 - Ronald Araújo

It will truly be interesting what happens at CB next season, I rate all 4 CBs we have, but it will be interesting how it settles over the course of the season.

Will flick stick with Martinez and Cubarsi, he will start with that for sure, but as much as I defended Martinez, in his first season when the entire forum hated, I think a fit Christensen does everything he does, but better and his younger.

While araujo has all the tools to he a top CB partnership with Cubarsi, Ying and Yang, but will his two high profile mistake scare him for life and he can't move past them.

No matter how it shakes out and how good our 4 CBs, which as a group is as good as any top team in Europe.

All that doesn't matter if we leave them hopefully exposed in games we should be managing to the final whistle.

Time will tell, most interesting part of the team for me next season.

It'll depend on Araujo becoming smarter and Christensen (if he stays) staying fit, then we'll have 4 players competing for 2 starting spots which should be good for Flick.

Araujo is fairly smart tbh, but he is mistake prone and injury prone while he lacks the passing ability.
Plenty of teams are willing to work with mistake prone CB, if you get the rest. David Luiz was prime example of that, and he had a fairly great career overall and won a lot. But he had the passing and was fairly healthy.
Araujo need to fix one of those, stay healthy and either learn to play with the ball or cut the mistakes.

He is understandably not flavour of the month, but if Araujo had just played the season he did under Xavi at another club, everyone here would be looking at him and saying he is perfect for our team.

And they would be saying that because they would be right. Our defence is desperately crying out for a super quick defender who dominates aerially, and bar Virg, who else out there does that?

Given the situation with our finances, hoping he gets his shit together may indeed be the smartest play.

Araujo is not going anywhere and will get this season to get his shit together, but the excuses need to stop.

If he is the same shitshow this upcoming season then he need to be sent packing.

Why do you keep saying that there are people making excuses for him? I certainly dont see that. Maybe you are referring to the point I made about the fans emasculating him, to try to explain why a world class centre back suddenly turns average after a mistake against PSG.

People will say change of system, but that's not the only thing that I see. I see a fundamental minimising of his risk taking and levels of aggression. Most of that is the fault of the player, but the fans have to play their part for their ridiculous overreaction to his PSG mistake.

People who come out in support of the guy see a person who was ridiculously vilified for ONE MISTAKE against PSG, after being the best player in the tie up to that point and arguably the BEST centre back in the world the previous season.

That sort of overreaction is never healthy, and there are always going to be fans who fight against it. Nothing like the Ter Stegen situation at all where it was after years of mistakes, although Araujo is fast coming to that point now.

Just a simple thing as passing/crossing - is very meh. Quality/precision of the pass/cross itself, to whom and when etc. Such an important part of being a CB for Barca, especially Flickball - and that is something Ara won't improve, you either have it his age or you never will.
Add to that he's confused af on the offside trap AND reckless in many tackles (that already costed us dear)...

But sure, we could do worse - but he needs to get his shit together and let the things he does well surpass what he does meh, than he could be alright for Flick. BUT, I see in the stars he'll cost us another title with a fuckup

I don't see anyone making excuses for him, even his supporters like me said he made a mistake vs PSG and Inter.

But against inter there was obvious mitigating circumstances that shouldn't have happened and a evaluation of the mistake is incomplete without stating that obvious fact.

What's also funny is fans said Xavi was the reason we lost the lead again PSG even with 10 men because he wasn't calm on the side line, but that's a conversation for another day.

Araujo needs to improve his passing, which won't happen unless he passes in games, which will lead to a few mistakes, but that's apart of the learning process, but when he passes fans ridicule him, can't please some fans.

The mistake against PSG I don't even care about, because others have made the same tackle and not gotten a red, his mistake was falling over after the challenge.

Against inter he fucked up.
