"Current Messi wouldn't have looked out of place in the 18/19 Barca team"?

Ok, watch his highlights from that CL again, and come back to tell me current Messi could do the same

It's not even close.

PS: It might be the same strengths and weaknesses as far as the kind we are talking about (for example, strength: through ball, weakness: defending), but his strengths have lost their bite, and his weaknesses have become even more blatant.
It's basically the same with anyone getting old. Doesn't happen only to Messi
Do help be specific on how his strengths lost its bite and how his weakness became more blatant.

Maybe that way, I can maybe try to understand your POV better.

Just fyi, this was him 2 weeks defending against a counter in the 95th minute, so I am curious of what you will say

Over the last two seasons only yamal has completed more dribbles than him

Nico completes a lot of dribbles cause he opts for the save pass a lot.

Avoids direct take ons a lot.

Also receives ball mostly when bilbao is on the break. Has space in front of him.

What was last seasons ranking?

Lower, but last season was a off year for him obviously, which is why we use two, to get a good sense of his skillset.

Nico is like 7th highest dribbler.

Teams don’t sit deep against Bilbao.
Statistically, Nico is second.
But I agree with your second statement, teams don't sit deep against them. But he is a good dribbler, he should be fine.

But lets see. I think he will be fine again low blocks, seeing him play for spain against teams that play like that.

He played good against compact NL.

His first half against France was also good.

He could become better against lowblock. But if you compare to kvara, kvara has better body for it. So odds are against him.
And not seen that kind of football from nico a lot yet.

Tbf, Raphinha is very poor at take ons.

So Nico could do well if improves shot and crosses.

Teams don't start in a low block against them, but there build up is so slow and safe, the defense gets back with two banks more often times than now

Are we not watching athletic and just going off what we assume

Their is a reason they conceded the fewest goals in the top 7 and scored the fewest

They aren't breaking out against teams in transition at all really

I watched a lot of bilbao last season. And according to what u guys told me Bilbao has been more defensive this season. I didn’t watch Bilbao a lot tbf.

Ok, forget low block. My mistake. Just a compact playing team.

Cause even best wingers rarely score against low block.

I just know from season before this one where peeps claim it was better season for him, he would usually pass it back as soon as there was more than one defender ahead of him in box. Even if there was one defender he would pass it back at times.

That could very well have been big contribution to his high number of dribbles.

Yea you're right about that, but I don't see that as a weakness, that's him playing smart and not wanting to lose possession

And it's not so much passing it back, as passing it side ways

If he passed back a lot, he wouldn't be one of the most sort after wingers in the world, but he's not the type to force the dribble that is true

PSG got the directive not to humiliate Inter Miami. That's the last thing soccer needs.

Football wise on the other hand, they shoulda fookin' smashed em.

Half surprised Wrexham didn't get the invite to replace the Mexicants that got booted actually.

Best south-american team in the tournament can't cope against the 5th or 6th best european team in the tournament...

The gap exists and is substantial, despite the timing of the tournament favoring South-American teams
