Hansi Flick - how do we rate him?

System and philosophy needs some work also. I don't want to ever see us exposing ourselves like idiots when match is in our control. Ever again under Flick. That would be a disaster and would make us look like clowns.

Flick football is very nice, but it's missing that pragmatism that all top managers implement at key moments. With that part missing completely, it will be tough for Flick to reach his peak.

And by peak I mean obviously winning CL and dominating the best teams. We failed this season vs Inter on the big occasion. So, if he is as ambitious as it gets, he will look to correct it. This can be done by signings in defense (top tier defenders deal with higher risk situations better than average defenders, rookies, or players with mental problems, which is basically our backline when Kounde is missing), but also by the manager.

This is the season of high polishing. The main theme is set, but some bolts and screws need some tighter fitting. What has me a bit worried is that Flick might be completely oblivious to this, or extremely confident in himself. Otherwise, we'd be chasing some CBs and fullbacks in this summer.

Improving the GK was due to happen, but we didn't lose vs Inter because of Scszesny, but because of fullbacks and CBs that were out of their depth at that level.

So... either invest in defense, or adjust the approach at times. No magic solution to fix this. Next season will he harder. Most top teams will be stronger, especially Madrid who will be out for blood to reclaim their lost title in Spain.
I honestly believe we would have been playing the Finals if we:-
- Balde and Kounde in the lineup or better backups - Grimaldo rumour indicates we are looking into this issue, plus Eric was injured and he got re-invented as an RB pretty late into the season, so I see him as a new backup for next season.

- Yamal being a bit pragmatic - His lack of experience showed, there was a sequence where he should have understood what Pedri wanted him to do. But he showed he learned from that, when a similar situation happened a couple of games later, and he did what an experienced footballer would do and wasted time without loosing possession.

- Our defense being not tired and better - If we could add Taller Faster LCB as a backup to Inigo he wouldn't have gotten tired, and we would have a much better approach to our defensive shortcomings.

I would much rather we invest on a LCB than a shiny new expensive LW. Our system generates the best possibilities for attackers, while having similar xGA and oppositions shots on goal as before years. Our CBs lack of speed , height , and GK not good at 1v1, are one of the reasons why the xGA being converted to GA is higher than our avg.

Anyone who better remembers Flick's Bayern details... Did he always play with one winger wide (Yamal) and the other one more like a second striker or did he use two wide wingers? Wondering how we could look with Nico...

Yes one winger wide (Coman ) one more like second striker (Gnabry)

Great stuff.

Have to admit, I am surprised at this new GK development and did think there could be some favouritism plus Flick is a bit too kind at times.

All that is left is to drop Lewa.

We will believe it when we see Garcia starting first league game next seasonm

Or Ter kicked out before that.

Till then there is no stopping TER RORIST

At this point, might as well bring in Messi as the false 9.

Absolute nonsense. Congestion upfront, even more liability behind, which should be exploited in Europe considering teams are substantially beefing up.

Something tells me it would be better for Barca to keep the change, avoid buying Olmo and Nico, and ride it out with La Masia for a while. Would still win domestically, while beefing up financially to replace Lewandowski down the line.

Albeit Nico is interesting player. Not top tier quality, but could pay dividends considering Barca is assembling Spanish NT basically.

Good Stuff. Most of our UCL competition next will be playing a lot of matches without any proper rest.
Hopefully this gives us a edge during the knockout phases.

Aint taking shit from this because: qsg and bayern are alreqdy resting if something out of ordinary do not happen already in feb/march.
Madrid would give fuck all if they fall behind for la liga.
City has 20 outfield players that can fill in.
Our problem is that we are sure that minutes are managed equally and top guns come march fire on all cylinders.

On paper Barca have the best squad in La Liga. And maybe the best in Europe too (though I still lean Man City for that).

All the other stuff - tactics, tiredness, peaking at the right time, rest, managing injuries, staying confident, luck - is stuff that has to be managed well. Those are big variables. But the key point is that Barca have a brilliant squad and have that advantage over most teams.

Therefore, what Flick has to do is keep the players performing and along with his team, calculate everything else around the quality of the players. He has a great squad so has no excuse not to challenge for the CL again next season. Luck plays a part but if Barca can keep players fit, peak in April and May and (crucially) Flick gets his tactics right, the treble will be on again.

The thing is I agree with guys here who think this 'we will outscore every team every game' is doomed to fail long-term. Flick has to be pragmatic sometimes, in both tactics and taking players off when the game is over. It's impossible to score 2/3/4 every game. As @Messi983 said, last season he kept going for goals at times when not necessary, and didn't rest key players enough. This is my main issue with his style, as someone who likes Barca but is not a fan and not as invested as you guys (so can have a less emotional opinion than some).

I love beautiful football, but it simply isn't practical to go gung ho for 60 games a season. In strategy or fitness.
