Ousmane Dembélé

Massive agent fee + telling the club to pay Dembele some incentives he wasn't close to reaching as well as a high salary.

Well... he would've been worth a high salary no? Right now he's easily worth 100m as a transfer fee alone. It was a question of us not rating him enough imo. We considered him not worth the hassle to give him what he wanted, they thought different, they were right, albeit in hindsight.

I don't blame the player and the agent anymore. It's perfectly fine to be confident in yourself, and think you are worth it, when you prove you are. Nobody forced us to buy him from Dortmund when he wasn't ready for a big club.

He delivered very fast at PSG. He was nearly there as a world class player, but we didn't rate him as such. Fair...

He was not worth 20m per year back then, nor the sign-on bonus + agent commission.

The nature of contracts is also based on projection. That's why you sign for 4-5 years into the future. We poorly estimated his projection and did not expect him to be a world class player so soon after he left us. That was the issue.

If he'd have known that, he'd have gave him the money imo.

It's subjective. We felt he wasn't worth it, but he was confident in himself and believed he was worth it, so he left (it worked out for him, and us, as we have Yamal).

We even offered him a contract with salary reduction, so Can't blame any party

This is the first season in his career he's played like a 20m per year player, and it's not even a full season. More like the last 6 months.

He was being dropped from the squad and getting benched by Lucho in the fall for disciplinary reasons. Let's see if he can follow up with these performances next season as well.

Plays as a false 9, with 2 wingers in Kvara and Doue/Barcola next to him. We missed out. He would have been great under Flick.

Fair point. I put it down more to our financial issues more than anything btw. Think we give him another chance if money wasn't so problematic back then.

He has been vital to PSG in the 2 seasons so far. He was the highest-rated player for them this season and the second-highest-rated player for them last season (the First was Mbappe).

His deal has been 100% worth it for PSG in the 2 seasons.

If you watched them in both seasons, you'll see how vital Dembele has been so far for them

Says you. The market determines a player's worth. It's however much a team is willing to pay. At the time, he was a rising star at Dortmund. We weren't the only team interested in him.

Yeah, but PSG is not a good example. They suffer exactly nothing if they waste 80m on someone. They couldn't care less. That's the problem with oil state clubs.

How is this relevant to him not being worth 20m per year to Barca? Even for PSG he's only played at the level you expect from a 20m per year player for six months. He was good last season, but not elite.

The last time we let the market dictate a player's worth we ended up almost bankrupting the club paying merely good players the salaries of great and elite players. @weloveyuner

The market/other teams might offer one of our players that earn 10m per year the double. Doesn't mean Barca should match it or go above 10m if that's what they deem the player is worth. Especially when the "market" is PSG, Man City, Chelsea, etc.

Teams that pay insane salaries and transfer fees every year without any repercussions.

He's a good player, but treble would have been won with or without him.
We all know lucho is the real star

Shame we couldn't get him back.
We turned out okay.
