9 - Robert Lewandowski

Tractor is butthurt because he took captain's armband off him, lol.

via phone call 🙄 „Robert, you’re not captain anymore. Bye”. At least that’s what media report.
To treat a player who played ~150 matches for country is poor imho.
Lewa’s resigning is poor as well. He also took an armband from Kuba (Blaszczykowski) in controversial circumstances and Kuba did not resign.

In Poland reactions are mixed, both the coach and Lewa are criticized.

I hope the coach stays the entire next season, so Lewy gets his 2 weeks of rest every now and then. I'm sure he has still a good season in his legs, if he gets the international breaks to rest himself.

Yes it's good news. He should retire anyway without this crying because his ego is to big.

What was the reason to take his captaincy away? So bizarre.
Not sure, coach decision.
Probably because of his absence in current matches, especially vs Finland which seems to be a crucial match of the current qualifications (to be 2nd), but the coach knew that much earlier and defended Lewa on a press conference (that he needs a rest, he’s 37 etc).

My take is that poor match vs Moldova forced coach to do something, and he did that 🙄

If it weren't WC in 2026 he would surely have retired by now. He should focus on club football but it's understandable he wants one last big NT tourny.

Coach calls him to inform him he's picking another player to be captain and Lewa throws a public tantrum even saying he didn't have time to prepare his wife for it. Whata idiot. Probably thinks world turns around them.

If he loves his country he plays. Fullstop.

There’s probably more to it. Prolly has been frustrated with the coach for a much longer time.

I have to think that because this would be the lamest move otherwise by Lewandowski.

He has an ego, but can’t believe that big. He treats the youngsters as his equal.

There is definitely much more going on behind the scenes to come up to this point but maybe we will never know...

Yes, you can be a true patriot and want to represent your country whenever you can, but deciding to miss this vital game against Finland just because of fatique does not ring the bell for me, there is more going on for sure behind the curtance...

I am not saying he is right or not, but as an example with Berbatov for instance, he did really try to do this and threw all this sh** to him because he believed from moral point of view he was right and something had to be changed... well, almost no one backed him then and now you see where the Bulgarian national team is... sometimes, as a leader you need to be the sacrificial lamb and get booed for the good of your country... sometimes it works, sometimes it does not...

Again, saying that, I have no idea what is going on in the Polish NT, so Lewa could easily just be a diva at this point...

But from a Barca fan point of view, free summer for Lewa is a good news without a doubt...
