23 - Jules Kounde

The play is still so insane to me. Just look at the scene from the beginning. Kounde wasn't even in the picture when Modric passed the ball. There were 3 blancos and 5 of our players closer to the ball than Kounde. And then he fuckin sprints in the 116 minute into the screen, overtakes everybody, intercepts the ball and finishes like prime Messi into the corner, while looking like he was subbed 10 minutes ago with fresh legs, although he has played the most minutes of all players in Europe and didn't miss a game since autumn 2023.
He is the very definition of a beast.

I can't help but thank Modric for that goal. The old man was so pure and honest, with a little of that boyhood love of Barca still in his heart, that he never went down to easily earn the freekick for Madrid on that slide.

And then he proceeds to provide Kounde with a wonderful assist.

What a player.

He might actually be senile at this point.

But for real, it's evident that Modrić doesn't have more than 30 minutes in him anymore. When he came on, their midfield was much better for a bit. Then, it sorta disappeared as Modrić's fatigue kicked in. The cherry on top was that mistake, that was masterfully anticipated by Kounde.

Might not be the best pass from Modric but definitely reachable for Diaz.

All he had to do was move towards the ball, not back away from it.

Did Diaz ballwatch tho?

Maybe expected Modric to play it in front of him to set up a counter.

I did see Diaz realize he misread path of ball and turns around albeit too late.

edit: checked. yes he did ballwatch

No, you guyz are right. He could have moved towards ball. He didnt realize Kounde was nearing him at that pace.

MODRIC should have played it in front of him in the first place to set up acounter,
which is what DIAZ was expecting.
And he slipped or choked or whatever,

In short MODRIC is to blame
