What a sad sad story. It looked like we have the next world class CB. We event compared him to Puyol, remember the Umtitol memes?
It’s so sad that injuries completely f*cked his career and now we have to resort to extreme measures.
The best action I think is to loan him to Ligue I, yeah, pay him 60% of wages or like a loan fee instead of cutting him and go to court. Or also mutually agree on termination of contract and pay him like 10M, cut the losses.

That is the worst case scenario here.
It needs :
A-Judge to decide we will have to pay them. (most likely happening)
B-The player forced to stay free agent as no club interested.

In case of Fernandes, it will be difficult for him if we indeed had offers for him from Brazil. It is a prove that the player decided to sabotage the club to get paid without work. You can't just choose to stop working with no reason in order to get the club to pay you.
If he moves to Brazil, with a comparable wage to what he has there before joining us, we only got to pay the difference.

As for Umtiti, it can be more tricky, as he might not have anywhere offers near what he gets paid, but if he has (or the club can prove there were offers) then again, we will only be responsible for whatever the difference between what we should pay and what he is getting paid.

Overall, this is like "loan while paying part of wage" except we give them no choice to stay.

In hindsight, club should have let him leave for 60 mil in 2018. We got Lenglet that summer, there was no need to give Umtiti such a big contract.

The board was stupid, should have called his bluff for wanting to leave for United, either you leave or accept a salary on the clubs terms.

He was world class, although his level had already dropped. We couldn't know Prime aged player will decline like this, unless doctors missed something.

Everyone wanted him to stay.

❗ Barcelona have released Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic. They won't be the only players, either. The club desperately needs to reduce the wage bill.
