I suspect they are banking on FIFA/UEFA not going full-on retribution mode, because of what FIFA/UEFA have to lose if they do. But FIFA/UEFA might just be do that, and if they do, shit hits the fan.
UEFA have nothing to lose. FIFA may be forced to go along with UEFA for fear of causing a split there and let's be honest protect themselves from this happening to them in the future.

Many organisations comes prepared and lose, it is natural in businesses.
Just because those clubs, and their legal teams, thought they are prepared legally, it doesn't mean they are right about it.
Not like FIFA and UEFA doesn't have elite legal teams on their disposal too.

Notice I'm not saying ESL is right. I'm saying UEFA is wrong, though.

And at the same time, FIFA/UEFA going full-on retribution mode comes with the cost of them ending up with Bayern, PSG, and a whole bunch of Europa level clubs. Which is exactly why FIFA/UEFA have been paper tigers so far and been crying more than taking legal action/sanctions.

I mean the crime is egregious. What's taking them so long to decide the punishment except that they don't have the power to punish.

How don't they have the power to punish? All it takes is for UEFA to force RFEF -> LFP to expel Barcelona, Madrid, and Atletico from La Liga. Once there, RFEF and LFP have to do it. FIFA/UEFA are private institutions, if you don't follow their rules, they are free to expel you. They can't stop you from playing football, but they can stop you from playing it in the competitions they organize.

You seem to not be grasping the concept that these 12 teams bring more than half of UEFA's revenue as it stands. Probably closer to 60% actually.

They would be punishing themselves to the maximum in punishing these clubs. Hence, the lack of power to punish.

Have I said there's not a massive loss? No. It is, but in a game of who losses how much, FIFA comes out on top based on size, infrastructure, most of the winning cards are left with them. It is up to the "exiled" clubs to come up with new competitions (plural, not just one, since FIFA have a lot more competitions than just CL) that can rival FIFA/UEFA. Good luck at that.

Man, that cat Florentiono Perez is a real life Emperor Palpatine.

Just watching him speak, you can feel the evil energy that man emits.

Football will enter decades of darkness with this man at the helm.

They already secured ~ 2 times the funding as 12 teams...than UEFA does with 32 teams.

And no doubt this is so their home games will be also be played in China...

They'd first have to refine teleportation tech. Journey time too long atm

Even if this whole ESL thingie doesn't pan out, at least it brought a shock to the system. Fatheads running UEFA/FIFA deserve a good jolt every know and then hehe

My, oh my, some comments in here.

Btw., the ESL has a terrible PR campaign. Only people out there supporting it are Perez and Agnelli, probably the most unlikable club presidents out there. Not even Zidane, in charge of the founder of the competition, voiced his support. Might be I'm out of the loop, but haven't seen much support for it coming from sporting circles.

You wanna sell something to people and you send Perez preach arrogantly on TV. Yeah, not gonna happen soon.

Exactly. Starting from that shoddy ESL official website which has practically nothing, to that lousy interview that Florention Perez gave yesterday, it appeared they were not prepared for all the blowbacks. I read that the ESL pre-emptively filed some lawsuits to counter any potential measures from UEFA and FIFA etc., but they probably didn't foresee the magnitude of the outrage and pushback they have caused.

If they do get shot down it is nobody's but their own fault.

You seem to be missing the point that currently the games with these clubs bring in that but that's not the same as saying these 12 teams. Who knows how this league will be viewed by the public. Sure the world wide fans will go along with it but domestically a lot of fans will probably shun it.

Fans in England like the competition between rival cities which doesn't exist within Europe. It will be a different type of fan and that will change the atmosphere and the spectacle of the game. The Premier League doesn't have the best players or the best football but it's the best most profitable league.

Perez should increase his security. UEFA/FIFA are too big an organizations to lock horns with. They might go after his head.
