2014 was the time.. that game was anyone to win but argentina was more unlucky. End of story.
How that fact can have any impact on a players career and legacy is really beyond me.

The thing is that overall he was good,but not exactly outstanding in WC 2014,especially in the semis and in the final.

Then he had a good 2015 Copa but lost in the final.

He got another chance in 2016,he was fantastic,but again lost in the final.

Then he had a mediocre 2018 WC and 2019 Copa.


If we add to that the good but scoreless 2010 WC and the failure of 2011 Copa,Messi’s Argentina career leaves a lot to be desired.

His club career with Barca has been on a GOAT level,his skillset and its evolution throughout the years have been on GOAT level,but his national team career has been underwhelming.

[MENTION=16735]bismp[/MENTION] agreed, I think he was fantastic in 2015 and 2016 Copa America. Messi is very unlucky he caught that Chile team at their absolute peak. I have never seen an international team play with as much intensity and constant running as Chile. That PK shootout is a total bummer for me, I remember watching it live and thought surely this is finally Messi's moment for Argentina.
