Ivanovic would be a poor choice, i don't even know why he's rated as highly as he is.He uses his physical strength and size to handle wingers, but if one of suitable quality comes around they do make him look rather retarded.Real needed a defender who has some form of pace or at least one that is aware of his surroundings.

I'm talking pure defensive ability. Nobody is denying Alves is world class, but to say Iva is crap is silly, he's a solid defender and his form right now is great, he's outshining 3 players who are better than him.

Hhahah... Alves is good at defending, he really is man. He's universal, attack, defence, midfield, everywhere u put him he'll show talent and give his best. Don't even try to compare him, even with examples, with that whack Ivanovic, people will laugh at you, like I am now !

when he stays back to defend, he does a decent job.
