Doesn't work like that. It's the more often than not the NTs best player that's wearing the badge these days. Look at Suarez, Neymar (!), Ronaldo etc. who got no business at all wearing a captain's armband. At least Messi is good role model compared to those douchebags and hotheads, and it's not like he cares that Mascherano is acting like the captain even if he doesn't wear the badge.
