Like Anton said a few years ago yes.

I think Pique has surpassed him as the best defender in the world.

But at present there is NO BETTER big game defender than Carlos Puyol.

In the really big games there is no other defender I would want.

puyol or lucio maybe.. hes had a poor season though..

pique is awesome.. but not quite as awesome without puyol.. which is understandable, but thats why i dont think hes the best in the world.

Thiago Silva - 39 apps., 1 yellow card, as I remember italian press hadn't named any of his performances avarage/poor, media call him player of the season in Calcio. And reminding he had quite avarage defenders to play with (except Abate; Nesta - always picking injuries; Bonera - no comment; Antonini - guy has a great will, but looks so shaky as a defender and was very avarage this season; Jankulovski, Mario, Oddo, Zambrotta - are all their past).
