Van Gaal doesn't really get on with superstar footballers, but thats nothing new to United fans, Fergie fell out with many of his stars and shipped them out when they looked to be on the decline. I bet Fergie would've fallen out with Ronaldo if he had stayed longer considering Ronaldo became a more selfish player, he fell out with Beckham, Keane, RVN, Rooney and many more. LVG so far has not fallen out with any players bar Valdes, he has irritated RVP/Falcao by freezing them out of the squad but has not exactly had a big rift with them, and has developed a good relationship with players such as Rooney that he doesn't whine when he has to play in midfield.

Funny thing is that he Netherlands did something similair against Czech Republic away. Janmaat headed the goal back to the keeper almost scored an own goal, ball came off the post and czech player scored.

Not only that he has declined, but Van Persie's wage would also be a problem... makes no sense to go for him.
