Sergio Busquets

Has there ever been a player that's judged as harshly on one moment as Busi's peekaboo? Half a decade later, I still see "too many antics" comments about him half a decade later, when he's the most consistent and most consummate pro we have with a while now.

I was listening to football show on Sirius/XM last night and a commentator from the BBC was raving about Busi, said it was a shame he doesn't get mentioned for the ballon d'or. He also said Madrid would never sign a player like Busi because he isn't flashy enough, which according to him is a huge part of their problems.

Not flashy enough is one way of putting it.

He simply isn't surrounded by hype. Which mainly stems from the fact that to appreciate Busquets play, one actually has to have some competence in analyzing plays. At a bare minimum, it would also help if the reps of the media class actually watched Barca matches outside of the CL and Clasicos. Which they don't.

Everyone and their pet goldfish can drool over Messi goals and Suarez volleys but not everyone drools over passing skills, subtle feints and all the small stuff culés love about him. One can't expect pundits who rave about P.A.C.E!!! and CROSSES!! all year every year to suddenly develop a taste for a playing style which mainly consists of vision, technique and the uncanny ability to know in advance where opponent players are about to move. It's also not very compatible with the most popular source of information for rating a player - random YouTube highlight reels.

Whenever commentators go into #RememberPeekaboo mode and refer to him as a diver you know that the person in question has no clue about him, Barca or football in general other than parroting random factoids from half a decade ago. Factoids, which the channels trainee of the week just dug out from Wikipedia.

It also doesn't help that Busquets is neither inclined to drunk driving, banging underaged hookers or producing self-indulgent movies about himself; so the yellow press isn't interested as well.

This is the story of Sergio Busquets, one of the greatest and most successful midfielders of all time, who goes mostly unnoticed by mainstream media.

Brazilian commentators here said, during the game vs Roma, that 4 years ago Busi's passing was bad, that he's gotten better now
One of them was a former player, Savio, who played for rm back in the day.

In Sweden they again said yesterday that he's a very important piece of Barça's team but that he goes down too easily and should stop playacting so much. Just incredible.

I say it's a good thing he don't receive the appreciation.... Longer he goes unnoticed, better for the team! And it's not like he don't get the recognition of the team either right? He is considered a captain material by none other than Xavi!
