Good deal IMO at face value.

Sold for only 8m reportedly. 40% of sell-on profit and a buyback.

We must be the worst club in the entire world when it comes to player sales.

It’s a brilliant deal, dude. Porto takes all the risk for a potential marginal profit. It’s a loan with extra steps (us getting cash now).

(if the reports are correct)

It is a brilliant deal if you compare it to getting zero money, certainly. It sucks when you think someone like Sabizter was sold for 20m and a bunch of other no name players are sold for well beyond 10m and we struggle to sell any player beyond 10m, even with buy-backs factored in.

I take you are a half-full person and good for you.

Difference is Nico can still work out, so we want to keep control of him (unlike Sabitzer).

No one would be stupid enough to buy Nico for 20m and a buyback clause for let’s say 25m.

Again, Porto has all the risk.

Porto are absolutely crazy to agree to that if true. Literally no scenario where they end up getting a good deal there.

The best they can hope for is he has a great few years which will mean he gets bought back, so they make 4m profit on a player who has had a few good years for them.

But even in that scenario, they would have been paying his wages and they must be thinking that they've sold a player worth crica 25m to 30m ( maybe more ) for 15m.

Wild.

I think Porto must see something in Nico that made them think that he will develop and progress to a point of either making solid contributions to their squad or selling him for much more than 8m. The latter most likely.

Remember Porto is well-known for selling players for a lot of money. Those guys are selling specialists. 8m is beyond-decent investment for them.

???

They virtually can’t sell for more than his buy-back clause. It’s a shit deal for them. He’s a bust and they burned 11m. He’s great and we come knocking.

We might not trigger it, even if he does well enough, either due to monetary constraint or he doesn't have a place in the midfield sporting-wise.

Nobody says the selling club can't sell a player with a buy-back clause to another club if the "parent club" doesn't trigger it, right? Or am I totally wrong here?

Unless we buy him back only to sell him again for a higher fee like what happened with Marmol?

What do you think a fair value for Nico?

I think 10M is about it tbh, 21 years old midfielder who was a rotation guy (mostly starting though) in Valancia, I don't think his price was really that high.
He isn't a physical specimen with massive potential like Moriba was (and he was also 18) to sell the "potential " for other clubs.

The buyback fee hasn't been reported by Sport. Only MD quote a 11m sale and 16m buyback, while Sport say a 8m sale.

So going by that, the buyback is probably 20m

I would say around 12-15m.

The fee is OK for a LaLiga loaned prospect who by and large was good not not great.

This Summer Terrats went for 2m, Antonio Blanco will prob be sub 5m. Last year Madrid sold LaLiga loaned Kubo for 6.5m only.

If Nico was a no named Portuguese player than Mendes could have pushed him to the PL for 40m. But maybe that's the angle if Nico can play well and Mendes can get in his head about not returning.

I'm sure our buyback clause will be Xm after a season and rising.

This is why Kessie for 10-15 million doesn't make sense.
Nico is unproven and Kessie is and still we can only get 10-15 million.
