Nothing happened. The "pre Rayo" and "post Rayo" thing itself is a big myth. No idea why people still spout that bullshit. Barca played against Rayo in the exact same manner as the year before under Tito. The possession difference was a whooping 1.8 %.

With a different method of counting possession stats it just happened to narrowly fall below the 50 % mark under Tata which created the perception of Tata playing a completely different system. When in reality it was a standard textbook approach against crazy pressing teams on a potatoe field => hoof it (same happened in the Calderon this season in the 1st half). Even the long ball stats were almost identical in that fixture between Tata and Tito. 68 long balls under Tito. 73 under Tata.

More like 9,2%.

I am pretty sure the stats showed that the likes of Alves actually hit MORE crosses under Tito and Pep than he has the past season and a half.

Not exactly.

Alves crosses per 90 mins in La Liga:

2014/15: 7,2 (1,4 successful; 19,4%)
2013/14: 6,1 (1,2 successful; 19,7%)
2012/13: 6,5 (1,7 successful; 26,2%)
2011/12: 4,1 (1,2 successful; 29,3%)
2010/11: 5,2 (1,1 successful; 21,2%)
2009/10: 6,9 (1,6 successful; 23,2%)

Obviously always depends on how and where he crossed. Under Guardiola he hit fewer crosses than in later years but his assists numbers were much higher in comparison (10, 15, 11 to 6, 3, 2). No stats for 08/09 unfortunately.
