Shouldn't have been playing a meaningless game with the UCL final looming.

He's been having injury problems for weeks, the most likely reason for him playing today and risking aggravating the injury is if the player insists on playing, because Ancelotti would not force his star player to play a meaningless game under this situation.

He didn't even play the game.....

He got injured in training, and they train almost every day. Could've happened the day before the CL final for all you know

Why does everyone assume players decide whether they're on the starting XI or not? Do you really think he walked up to Ancelotti and was like, "Yo I wanna win the Golden Boot so play me plz," and that Ancelotti would be cool with that?

Ancelotti said yesterday he would start. So apparently cr really wanted to play this dead rubber game... I wonder why :pep:

He got injured in warm-up just before the game, and he has had problems in that area for a while, sitting and resting would have been the smartest move, not playing a meaningless game to pad your stats.

If you're going to risk aggravating an injury, better risk it for the UCL final than a meaningless game.

There's two things wrong in what you're saying. First, you're presuming that he forced the green light from the medical staff. Any player, if given the green light, would want to play. Why would anyone sit and rest and be rusty for the CL final? Secondly, he would be risking aggravating the injury IF he played the game. Pulling out was the right move, selfish would be if he decided to continue in pain.

How do you know this? Where did this come from? Maybe Ancelotti wanted to make sure Ronaldo is in form and scoring before the CL final, maybe he wanted to make sure the attacking 3 and midfield is geling 100%, maybe he thought that 7 days was more than enough rest for a player of Ronaldo's fitness... But no, it's automatically "he wants more records because he's cocky and selfish."

His history speaks for itself. But this was in the spanish media during the week, that cr wanted to play to secure the golden boot. He didn't want to share it with Suarez. It's anything but far fetched.

We know he's had problems and discomfort in that area for weeks. Early last week in training he felt more discomfort. Smart money would suggest he not risk it and sit this game, regardless of green, red or amber light from medical staff. I very much doubt Ancelotti would risk him playing, so this more likely than not is Ronaldo forcing to play when the smart move would be to not play.

Pulling out after aggravating was the only move, playing with a worsened condition would just go beyond stupidity. He shouldn't have risked it.

He was probably lucky he felt the discomfort early in warm-up. If he had been there under strain of the actual game, the re-aggravation might have been worse.

Agree to disagree. You seem to think he aggravated the injury during warm-up, I find that hard to believe. Because even trainings are at a higher intensity than warm-ups.

News reports from everyone say he felt discomfort during warm-up to the game, not in training. He has been limited in training throughout the week because this very reason.
