Getting Deulofeu, him and Soriano to replace Tello, Pedro and Alexis and you get:
- 1 false nine who can play at RW and as second striker
- 1 left winger who can play at RW (better at LW) and CF
- 1 right winger who can play at LW
- 1 pure center forward
- 1 versatile forward who can play at any position both in attack and in midfield
All being able to dribble very well and able to pass the ball perfectly as well.

As opposed to this year:
- 1 false nine who can play at RW and SS
- 3 left wingers who can play at RW (1 of which can play in CF)
- 1 right winger

defends only ?? A team keeping the ball 70 minutes out of the 90 don't need a defensive right back, we need a wide extra men on both sides, to keep the defense stretched and provide extra threat inform of shooting and crossing.

besides, abidal worked pretty damn well. we've been shit ever since so how can u say we don't need a defensive fulback?

if you consider abidal as a defensive fullback, there is nothing more so say.

He wasn't a alba type, nor was he a fully defensive fullback, he was a very balanced one.

i won't mind one such kind.

He could play at CB, doesn't more defensive than that. And by defensive fullback, we mean he didn't go up the field that much (as much as Alves or Alba), but was defensively very solid (supporting the center backs, as opposed to the attack).

Abidal first instinct was to defend... Surely he could help out in attack, but he was a defensive player first and an attacking player second and right now we have no FB with such ability...

His team mate Borja Valero said that he is even more attacking than Dani Alves. No suprise there considering he is a winger.

Cuadrado is a good winger, but the price mentioned(30m due to being co-owned) and the questionmark on whether he actually would be an upgrade on Alexis or not is there. One thing for sure is that he is not a RB so getting him to replace Dani would not be such a good idea IMO.

Agreed. He won't be a fullback, and don't know how he'd do at Barca, but he's no bad at all.

no.

what you guys don't understand is the necessity of having wingbacks that can attack and provide width in the game today. that width to the by line is actually the best way to crack very defensive teams.

see madrid second goal vs atleti in their league meeting

or see both of atleti's goals vs. chelsea

or see chelsea's goal vs. atleti.

see neymar supercopa goal vs. atleti.

all of the top teams require an option of two wingbacks that are good both forward and back.

see bayern, madrid, atleti, chelsea, barca etc.

People have short memories. Abidal was 6'1 or so and had a defend first, attack second skillset. That was also made clear by how effortlessly and efficiently he covered as a CB.

You act like you need ATTACKING fullbacks to go forward and "stretch" the defense a bit. One attacking fb and one who defends, but CAN go up as needed to stretch the pitch is so much better for the team. Sure, lets have a second attacking FB as an option, but in big games vs tough oposition we should always go one def fb, one attack.

Our defense is so fragile, not sure how two offensive fb starting on the regular would improve that? We play Alves and Alba now and its terrible. We need to convert Bartra- good height, speed and heart, into a def fb. He has pretty good dribbling too, much better tham Abidal ever had. If not Bartra, buy one...and keep him as CB and sign one CB...two if Masch leaves, but id keep him as alt DM and 4th option cb and sell Song- Song gives us nothing. One thing is for sure, we need height in that backline, badly.

Alba (short)- Pique 6'4 - Benatia 6'3 - Bartra 6'0

Balanced and good height. I believe in Bartra.

I have a question , is he a shoot first kinda guy or pass first?

His decision making gets more questionable the closer he gets to the opposition goal... Meaning he shoots and passes at the wrong moment quite frequently, especially if he has already dribbled past a few players...

I'd rather not have us buy him to be honest.

He also has that habit of trying to dribble through everything instead of playing out the right pass which many times kills a chance.
