Ernesto Valverde - V1

we were pretty poor and lucky at times but once again.. EV gets the win and Barca march on. it really does feel like we are the new Madrid with some of our luck. the ball seems to fall at our feet, our opponents hit the post and all those own goals, Ernesto using black magic

Maybe when people will realize that our players are not good enough to play attractive football they will stop blaming Valverde

Too offensive approach often backfires.
Barca's history since 90s is a textbook example of that.

We scored 7 goals in the last 2 home Cl knockout matches.
And people whine how we are cautious.

A question: name one era, except Pep's era, when we played more attacking than now and YET when our results were better than now?

To be fair we had a fair amount of luck today. We didn’t deserve 4-1 victory.

Obviously there was Cryuff's Dream Team since Valverde's Barça hasn't achieved anything yet.
And Rijkaard's early seasons too.

Honest question if we hire an Italian manager and switch to catenaccio would you finally have an orgasm? :pep:

By your logic only defensive teams should win the CLs then?

No.

1. in majority of La Liga matches, play Pep's onedimensional always too attacking style, and we will be fine.
In some away La Liga matches, adopt some more cautious approach.
2. in a CL knockout phase, say goodbye to Pep's style and play EV's or Rijkaard's 2006's style, Barca meeting workhorses and some cautious Italian approach.

I am quite sure that Barca would have way more CL titles in the last 20-30 years if we would have played Barca's style mixed with some Italian approach, and having Messi on top of that.
We would have slightly less fans, on the other hand.

Obviously there was Cryuff's Dream Team since Valverde's Barça hasn't achieved anything yet.
And Rijkaard's early seasons too.

Cruijff won 1 CL in 8 years.
Rijkaard won 1 CL in 5 years here.
Both Cruijff and Rijkaard had their fair share of naive CL performances with playing WAAAAAY TOO attacking.
A classical example of too attacking Barca back then and Pep in the last few years, it is like watching the same match over and over again:

EV can match them.
Also, EV has nice chances to win a CL in his debut season.

** People talk about EV's luck.
Cruijff's only CL title came after a lucky goal in injury time of a 2nd leg in early rounds before a final game, and in a final we won in extra time after a free kick.
And again, people talk about EV's luck...

very rarely do people care how trophies are won. yes, madrid were amazing in CL last season but in the talk of a 3 peat, no one cares how the 15-16 CL was won by them, with europa tier opponents and an offside goal in the final.

if we have any chance of a 6th CL playing like an italian team, i would take it HAPPILY.

Cruyff won 2 leagues in a row in the last game because merdrid lost in tenerife twice.

La liga it´s a wrap.

Sevilla does not scary me.

Bring Madrid in the semis. No fear. Rather them than Liverpool. They style of football does not suit us.

After Messi and Suarez , in the 3rd place with EIGHT goals is ...... Own Goal !!!!
