Ernesto Valverde said he was ‘so happy’ to see Malcom score on his Champions League debut in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw at Inter on Tuesday.

The Brazilian broke the deadlock shortly after arriving from the bench, and Valverde spoke about the 21-year-old after the game.

“It was a great game. Our primary target was to qualify. We played well in every aspect,” he said.

“We pressed well, we attacked well, all that was missing was a little bit more accuracy over the final metres.

“And we’re all so happy for Malcom. He had the finish that we had been missing at other times in the game.
“He has been working hard to get better every day. He’s still young and there’s a lot of margin for improvement.”
Barcelona were without Lionel Messi once again, despite the captain having travelled with the squad to Milan, and Valverde offered an update after the game.

“We wanted the whole team to travel to train together, but in the end it was not the same training as the calibre of this match, with that intensity,” he said.
”The decision has been simple: we preferred not to take risks. We’ve talked to him and he’s been clear.”
Barcelona have just one more game now before the international break, at home to Real Betis on Sunday, it remains to be seen if Messi will make his comeback in that game.

A draw away against a good Italian team, on a night when the finishing was off, that's OK. Very good work in midfield defence, with the 6 second rule, stopping Inter from bringing the ball up. In deep defense, well, it's important that this team does not have to defend deep too often. The offense will have to produce a lot this season, because clean sheets are going to continue to be rare.

The good news is that the depth is looking better and better. The more talented players outside of the first 11 are showing they can really help. Dembele, Vidal, Malcom, Semedo, Lenglet, Alena, you can win a lot of games playing these guys.

Only got to watch about 30 mins of the 1st half, thought we played real well during that stretch and truly believe we deserved to be ahead.

He looked disgusted. Whatever personal issues he has with the transfer he should put that shit aside and think about the team.

So you guys think Valverde subbed on Malcom and hoped he would not score a goal when the score was 0-0? Thats ridiculous

The entire team and management deserve huge credit for the way they stepped up after Messi's injury.

We've had some very tough matches but have been brilliant in nearly all of them.

What's ridiculous is how he's handled incorporating Malcolm into the group so far. That and overplaying of certain players. We'll see how things go when March comes around.
