Andrea Pirlo: the night Pep Guardiola tried to sign me for Barcelona
In an extract from his new autobiography, the Italy midfielder reveals how he would have 'crawled on all fours' to join Barça after Pep Guardiola tried to sign him, only for Milan to hold firm

his writing is almost as tranquil as his football.

on cl 2005:
There are always lessons to be found in the darkest moments. It’s a moral obligation to dig deep and find that little glimmer of hope or pearl of wisdom. You might hit upon an elegant phrase that stays with you and makes the journey that little bit less bitter. I’ve tried with Istanbul and haven’t managed to get beyond these words: for fuck’s sake.

I translated that same chapter on here a year ago: http://www.barcaforum.com/showthread.php/7224-Andrea-Pirlo?p=1006611&viewfull=1#post1006611

Good to see more people can read it now that there's a full English translation. It's a great read, he has quite a sense of humor as well.

Probably my favorite part, when Pep is trying to convince Pirlo to join Barca:

"Our champions are home-made; apart from you, that is..."

Nice :)

You're fluent in italian right?

I'm actually not, every once in a while there was a word I didn't know that I consulted a dictionary for. This was the second Italian language book I attempted to read (after Zanetti's autobiography).

I'm ok with written Italian (probably low end of intermediate level), a lot in part because I read the papers almost every day. But my spoken Italian is pretty bad... mostly because I have no opportunity to use it here so I don't get any practice. Though I tried it on Pirlo when I met him - what few words I could form anyway. :p

you guys don't realise that xavi and pirlo are both the guys you need to play through all the time. if you have both then both of them will suffer.
