And that's why you don't play Roberto together with Dembele, that right side is disaster with those two. One can't defend and another one doesn't defend at all. If Dembele starts then Semedo should start, if Roberto starts, then you need to play one of Paulinho, Gomes or Vidal on the right side to help Roberto out in defence.
Neither of the 3 mentioned can really defend. It's Rakitic who made Roberto look better at RB than he really is. Yesterday Rakitic was basically playing alone in the midfield so he couldn't look after Roberto as well like he usually does when Busquets is playing. Rakitic played in Busquets' role with Paulinho playing in Rakitic's role so Paulinho should have done some defensive work and help Roberto but instead he was somewhere around Sevilla"s penalty area waiting for a tap-in.

They can defend better than Dembele and they always help out in defence there is no question for them "should I comeback or stay waiting for the ball".

Yes Rakitic can help out him as well if Busi is playing and then Paulinho is taking Rakitic place.

Proving again and again that he can't be better than a bench player, no added value in midfield and Semdo is far better at the RB position.

Well, he was dispatched in a very defensive role today. I bet Valverde asked him to help Semedo and that's all.

He was okay, but people waiting for him to become a starter in the midfield should stop. He's 26 years old.

He's a jack of all trades, master of none type of a player. Someone that in 1-2 years will be a sub for multiple positions, but not a starter. If Semedo doesn't work out, the club will sign a new RB in Odriozola.

The only reason he's cut so much slack is because he's from La Masia. Had it been an outsider half of this forum would have been campaigning for him to get sold already knowing how frivolous people behave around here.

Agreed. But we can conclude that he is the perfect bench player after all. You have him in the team, he can cover many positions in case some of our starters get injured.

Actually, for us to be a good team (i'm talking about the squad value), players like Roberto should replace the likes of Gomes on our roster. Players that might give you some other options coming off the bench, not players that fail even at their definite/natural position.

I agree. He can play almost any position, which wi make him very valuable but only in rotation, not as a starter..

He is great backup to have.

I would be laughing out reading all the posts in this thread after few years when he retires as Barca legend .
He will be remembered when he retires but Not as a starter though IMO.

He's the perfect 12th man player but not quite as a starter. I give him a lot of props as he was great in the first half of the season but since January bar a game here and there he's been pretty poor and he's fallen back into the same cycle that plagued him a season ago. teams have started to take advantage of his limitations in defending and he's not been great going forward in awhile.

Think it's only a matter of time before Roberto loses his starting spot at RB, either by Semedo or even another RB assuming Semedo doesn't work out but Semedo looked promising going forward etc vs Girona and today.
