We're on pace for an 80 point season. For most of the past decade that'd have been 10 points behind 2nd place, lol. EV's just lucky the competition from RM and AM is non-existent.
Same with CL, Inter should have beat or drawn us at Camp Nou. But they missed like 2 sitters 1st half and Messi went Messi 2nd half.
Don't think a devalued Copa America title, especially in the same year as the EUROs would be much of a boost. There are going to have been 4 Copa America tournaments played in the last 6 years. Normally it should be 4 every 16 years. Turning into a bit of a joke at this point.
To be honest he can still win a few more without any major trophies if he has some more 50+ goal seasons, a good individual CL campaign and all the other major tournament winners don't have any clear argument.
Ronaldo was the only one viable enough to compete with Leo head-to-head for a while. Now that he's finished the path is pretty much clear for Messi to win more Ballon D'ors while having to be less of an alien. There is no other player that can win without standing out as the difference maker for a CL/NT trophy winning team.

I have to admit one thing, though. Ernesto seems to be a very lucky man. He has a lot of terrible performances through the season, but somehow ends up winning most of them. (usually shit show happens in CL)..

Bring on Monday, Messi's a lucky boy if he gets this one, because as much as he deserves it, in this current climate it's always wrongly awarded to a player of the CL winning team, thanks to Ronaldo.

Maybe it's a sympathy award if he wins it because it's his last chance of winning it really. He's not going to do much else for this awful Barca shambles. His last hope of a CL went at Anfield. Got maybe one more shot of a Copa next year but looked liek Anfield and the Brazil Copa game this year cost him the Ballon D'or to VVD.
Ironically had Holland beat Penaldo's Portugal to win Nation's League VVD would have won it for sure.
It might finish 6-5 if Messi wins it this year, but I think Penaldo could get the sympathy vote next year if Juve win CL or Portugal win Euros again. Both could feasibly happen. Messi has already won. Why would you bet on VVD? France Football will release their cover and interview after the event next Monday which is why the winner's leaked already. That's not something that's done in 24 hours.
Modric winning it was leaked a week before last year too as France Football were in Madrid for his photoshoot.

What about assists - key passes - dribblings or other stuff ? Messi’s last season was legendary as he almost carried a bunch of old plebs to a treble. As impressive or good was cr last year , his performance doesn’t touch Messi’s, even if they have similar scoring stats.

To his credit, Modric was one of the most important players of the club that won CL & the country their first WC final ever
Having that said, no force in the world would have stopped CR7 from winning it had he stayed at Madrid!
It also begs to question the credibility of all those golden balls he stacked up when at Madrid, including/especially the one that he was given when he had won absolutely nothing with the club/country while getting the deadline extended!
If God forbid, van Dijk wins, it would also beg to question the football governing body's sincerity in their cry against racism; when more deserving Liverpool player Mane who even helped his country get to African Cup of Nations final is not even in the consideration!
