Sergio Busquets

Well I think Yaya is currently better than Busquets as he offers a different dimension and is a rock in the centre of the park, but in time, I think Busquets will become a much better player and will have alot more to his allround game, but it's hard to say and it's also a shame to have seen Toure leave.

Busquets keeps on showing signs of improvement and he was impressive for Spain in the World Cup. People were saying half way through the tournament how Spain missed Senna and how Busquets was the weak link, but that wasn't the case at all.

Im sorry but Busquets had a good World Cup.....only because Alonso was playing beside him. Look at all the big games from last season, where even if we won, we got over-run in midfield. We got soo wrapped up in signing Cesc and now that aint happening (this season anyway), Yaya has left, and you can sense a bit of panic with the way we are being linked to every defensive midfielder. Spain are like a BarcaLite ( no disrespect) and look how the opposition, accepting the fact that they couldn't outplay them, doubled up in midfield. The advantage Alonso has, is that apart from being an effective "destroyer" he can also launch attacks. Sergi struggles because his default pass is to find Xavi or Inieasta. If those are the team orders, fine, but the problems start when he cant make the pass and suddenly he has no options and the attack breaks down. And you fear that any "50-50" challenge- especially in areas that he receives the ball- he will lose out because he is physically weak.

The problem for us, is that we cant afford to play an xtra man in midfield without dropping either of Xavi or Iniesta. Substitute Busquets with an Essien or a Maschareno or an Alonso or even a younger Senna for that matter ( players who can do the simple things- which Sergi does really well, but can also step up and do the more difficult, that Sergi can't) and i feel we are at our optimum best.

I actually re-watched Spain's World Cup games again recently and Alonso's performances were REMARKABLE. He gave Busquets the freedom to do the simple things well, but play him as the sole defensive midfielder( and the xtra responsibility that involves), regardless of what we do when we have the ball, once we lose possession we are in trouble.

Its easy for us to come on here and bash players when we lose, so no-one can accuse me of that ( yet!!) lol...What i did was to look at the games from last season we struggled and Spain's World Cup campaign and i saw some things which alarmed me and feel that Pep has not addressed them adequately. And number one on that list is defensive midfield. Cant wait for the new season !!!!! lol

No,he had a very good WC but saying that Busquetes played well because of him makes no sense.I still think that Busquetes is more suitable to 4-3-3 formation more than the double pivot.
