I actually think he's a bit slow too. He'll get eaten alive by a very fast winger or forward. We saw it in the CL when he had to foul CR7 because he blew past him. Otherwise he's strong and wins a lot of duels. Good qualities so far.

He's not slow and not very fast either. He is decent in this area, meaning it's not a weakness nor a strong points except some rare cases, when he either faces a super fast striker or a very slow one.

I believe defending is really up to intelligence and technique. Not all the great cbs were simultaneously fast and strong and tall. They were different. He can manage fast players with those two features. And i guess cbs are not the most fast ones in a group. And you expect them to face the fastest. They just need to manage offense in any way possible. Tactics, team play, composition and etc are decisive variables.


p.s: He is not slow.

He doesnt give perception of slow either.

He's not slow. May be that his acceleration on the first few meters is not one of a small, maneuverable, fast winger but you can't expect that from a guy being that tall and muscular. That's physically impossoble. Taken his mass into consideration he is very athletic and fast, easily the fastest CB in the squad.

"Fastest" as in the maximum speed they registered in an isolated episode during a match over the season. Does not mean anything other than that these guys can accelerate to this speed if they have space.
