Lionel Messi - v7

Yea, like Il Fenomeno among others (I trust you won't think I'm comparing Vidal with Ronaldo). It matters who you play for. In all his career he played for underdogs mostly, at least at CL level. The one time he played for a big favorite, they got unlucky in that match vs Atletico in 2016.

Don't know what we're arguing really. Vidal was good enough to have won even more than one CL, but you play the cards that you are given sometimes. Navas has 3 CLs, Buffon has 0. And so on. Multiple examples.

Yeah, Atletico 2016 was a freak tie, Saul was prime-Messi and dribbled 5-6 Bayern-players, and thats about all Atletico did in those ties, really.
Obviously Vidal was top player, which goes back to my point, its not about "fighting spirit" or "mentality", you have to have good teammates around you(and a bit of luck), he had it with Chile, but not in CL(in terms of luck).

Yea, no doubt. You need some luck as well. And Vidal didn't have it. Fighting spirit is important, but obviously there are other elements which will impact how many CLs you will win, if any at all.

Well, in this age of attributing CL-wins(or losses) to individual players, he hardly made a big name for himself in the past either, did he?
Arturo Vidal, grand total of zero CL wins in his career.

Of course, he`ll always have those wins with Chile to fall back on though, arguably bigger, but still.

Why singled out Arturo Vidal though? Are you suggesting that he has been good for nothing as a footballer other than his "fighting spirit"?

Your very own Ramos is a good example. Like him or not, he is a very good defender (who has also scored some key goals), a fighter and a leader. The point was no matter how talented or technically-gifted you are, mentally you need to be tough and at the very least possess the quality of competitiveness, keeping trying and not giving up easily ( something that has been lacking for us for the past many years) to succeed today, increasingly.

In Economics they taught us you are better off betting against your team. If you win, you lose money but you get to see your team win .. its like buying a ticket to watch the game. If you lose, you make money which can comfort your emotions since your team lost the game

Not bold. I prefer to win on both counts.

Well, because he is the ultimate "fighter"-ish example if a player you can find.
I use him as an example as to disprove this whole "just fight and show some spirit and you`ll be good in the CL"-thing that many seems to cling to, to a lesser extent, i use him as an example because he is a massive idiot(but thats a different story) and i like to single him out for that reason.

A narrative that I disagree with but I am not dwelling on this.

Of course fighting spirit is just one piece of the puzzle and it alone will not take you far. Neither will the other parts (if alone) these days, CL or not.

I am still hoping for Messi to save his legacy. Just do what Xavi and Iniesta did. It's time. No shame in moving to secure a more relaxed time at the end of your career.

Ffs, where you leaving in a cave last three months? 😅
He wanted to move out of this shit club to be happy and not suffer anymore as he said during his long-awaited interview watched by MILLIONS.
Check it out genius. He doesn't want to play anymore.
He's already gone. He can take a piss at the camp Nou I would stand up and cheers. 🍾😄👆
Mob's club is killing the end of his career.

He should go to Serie A. Plenty of players pushing 40 are banging goals in over there. It's a much slower league. Either that or go to PSG.

Glad he didn't go to City because he'd have ruined his reputation even more, by not being able to physically cope with the Premier League given his physical decline.

I watched a few serie a matches last weekend and I completely agree. They play about half the speed of la liga. More organized defending yes, but the slower pace will do him a ton of good.

Well, fortunately Messi knows better than this shit attitude of yours. He is a professional and he is getting paid more than handsomely so he will have to show up until the end of this season.

Shit club? Take a piss at Camp Nou? The board might be shit but this sort of brainless Messi fanboyism with total disregard for the club is just despicable and I am glad we will soon be without. This club is much more than Messi and this shitty board. Go cheer for City or PSG or whatever club Messi plays for next season.

Messi has not scored against Real Madrid in

901 days
6 games
530 minutes
since 2018

Edit : and 31800 seconds!

You mean : he played 6 games of a total of 530 minutes in 901 days? Wow😱 Just how long were the half times? 25 days? 😂😜

You amuse me. Giving ALL kind of 'stats' just that we realize how terrible the situation is. Go on. It's fun here. So many pages, what a success for the site!

Honestly, I think it is one of his better games since covid. His finishing is still of but he created many great defense breaking passes and was overall more involved and with exception of few plays he made the right decisions mostly.
Depends on continuity of Coutinho, if the he (Cou) keeps his good form Messi should take a back seat and be false 9, if Cou return to being mediocre (most likely) Messi should be our 10

Problem is he dropped around next to Busi and Frenkie to receive the ball.
No matter how improved he was today (I saw him as simply having more motivation), you cannot remedy that.
He is not a 'false 6', and he seems to do not care about how he messes the structure with this movement

Oh wait, you means Messi isn't considering pissing on Camp Nou? Absurd. Why would he not? 😒
Relax, it's a light discussion. You take football and club's prestige way too seriously. Unless Cryuff is your God and Barca your religion.
Damn, this forum is a joke because crybabies are blaming the greatest, who wanted to leave but was prevented to, to decline at 33 years old after giving all his genius to the club for more than 15 years!

It's just a damn club. It's an institution. Not a human life. It can't really die or suffer.
The club is very old, rich, cheating, buying players, expensive awful ones lately, has ups and downs (thankfully nobody's perfect!).

But coming sh*tting on someone who gave you the best football possible and giving you trophies all the time because now he can't perform as he used to in a club he maybe despise now? Well, that's unbelievably coward.

I don't care how much they pay him. I'd be him, I will ask for more. They didn't want to sell him and prefer to pay his wages and let him go for free next year? Fine, pay. But pay me more. "That is the price to pay to sh*t on the end of my professional life. Playing with 17 years old immature players all around me and old slow lazy ones in defence."

But don't worry, his name is Messi. He's not a queen. He wants to keep his head probably.

And keep paying Dembele and Griezmann huges wages. After all, they costed you a total of 210 millions! 🤣
But, we all know that was Leo's fault😁
