Lionel Messi - v7

 And despite all this he thought it would be a good idea to go to Premier League looking at his current physical level. Man is in denial big time, like most of the Amigos before him.

Not a problem he declined for me. The problem is the club and most of the fans are in denial about that. He'd still be a top 3-5 player today if he would just accept he's far from what he was and would adapt his games to take consider and respect that.

But no, he keeps dropping deep as if he's gonna take the ball and dribble 3-4 players in a row .

If anything he is the one who accepts his decline
It is those who still thinks he should suddenly press defense or becomes a 9 who are in denial
Messi was a SS for most of his career and as he ages with his skillset his natural progression is a playmaker not a striker.
He needs a certain team for this to work,he realized this and wanted out.

Good, but if you're referring to me, I wanted him sold, not "9".

What bothers me:
1. When will Koeman rotate him for the first time?
2. And even worse, when will Messi get subbed off for the first time during a match?

And then:
3. How pissed will Messi be?

We used to laugh at CR7 for getting angry when he was being subbed.

Let's see if Messi will have more humble reactions.

Never. Koeman will be tough with anyone except Messi.

Will have to wait for Koeman to actually substitute him first. It's pretty obvious he needs to not be playing 90 mins each game. He's got 2 world cup qualifiers in south america then we're away to getafe and home to Ferencvaros. Should be benched for both games and only brought on if we need a goal.

What also bothers me is:

1. Who will play as 9 when he needs to rest?
2. De we have a player who can function effectively as a 9?
3. Should we purchase or loan a striker ?
4. Should Koeman use Braithwaite more in the 9 role.

Koeman is having a hard time being tough with Busquets...forget about Messi.

Check out who those G + A were against.

He made his legendary status destroying RM, Bayern, Man United, AM and the like. Not mid table clubs in LL.

+1

People are showing dribbling and goal stats but if you look close to them you see most of them were against small teams. I also think he is a bit out off form, I would give him a rest to come stronger back as currently Messi wont help us much.

Its laughable that a coach never subbed off Messi in a official match since Pep (or am I wrong? ). We need to stop this bullshit and give him rest if we lead a match with 3 or 4 goals difference.

Greaseman? At least when we rest Messi, Greaseman will play in his natural position for the first time.

True, but you still blaming him for not being something he isn't.
We will have to live with his limitations as a team.
Coach and board wanted him to stay when he wanted out, it is their job to put him in positions to succeed. Otherwise the blame on them

Because what he wants is hurting the team. Either he adapts to what the team needs, or he leaves. This "free role" where he tries to do what he wants and everyone has to pander to his whims and moods is terrible.

Interestingly Messi is the one player who doesn't behave like a member of the team, walking and not supporting his team mates. He doesn't even try to recover the ball after he gives it away trying to dribble in the midfield, he just stops and waits for the team to recover the ball and give it back to him. At the moment it's a team of 10 players + Messi instead of a team of 11 players.

I'm just imagining it, an old Messi doing the midfielders and strikers role then people still want him to do the defensive role and you want him to be captain too. What are you going to ask next year, be a Goal Keeper, Manager then President ? Jordan at Bulls didn't play the defensive duties it's all Pipen or Rodman. PJax and Tez created a role for each players on the floor. Messi, Jordan , Kobe, Cristiano, Maradona or Lebron etc etc can't carry dead weights. It's a TEAM sport
It's a team sport, but in the past he was able to take the ball and decide the match out of nowhere, like RM 2:0 in 2011 or 5:1 (was it 5:1?) against Arsenal.

Nowadays, he is a nonfactor in CL matches, just losing balls like a turnover machine and being easily dispossed due to weak stamina, slow pace and bad decisions (dribbles past 3 through the middle).

Yes, it's a team sport.
But his performances in big matches heavily declined.

And this season, he will reach Titanic levels of low and losing balls.

Your talking about 2011, Messi is already past his prime. Forum De Amigos should have realized that already. After Messi injuries i think 2013, he already changed how he play. He knew his body limitations, he will not force himself to be a headless chicken chasing ball just to look he's defending. Performance against Big matches declined ? Did you ask his teammates, did they improved. Ain't you the one saying that Barca is full of overrated mediocre players. See, this is where the TEAM enters, hope to see a season where Messi being carried by his teammates instead of expecting a past prime Messi carrying these Hype youngsters

Some of the fans here who insist he isn't declining dramatically are ironically doing a disservice to his level from 2008-2015 (and even some patches through 18-19).

He was an actual alien in those days. Averaged 100+ dribbles in some CL seasons and was scoring solo goals left and right.

This dude right now has trouble zipping past Sevilla fullbacks, lol. It's normal. He's 33. Maradona, Cruyff, DiStefano, R9, and Pele at that age were long finished. CR7 is also finished as a dribbler/winger but he can still be a predator in the box. I don't know why it's so hard for his fanboys to admit this and continue complaining about how he has bad/low IQ teammates.

If he needs great teammates to succeed, what the fuck is special about him then?

So Messi should retire, because he can't carry anymore mediocre hype players ? Why not just sell him
