Erling Haaland

Exactly. Ronaldo was always poison for Atletico. He is similar, maybe not yet as great head player, but I assume he will improve. He is insanely fast too.

Over long distances. He doesn't have the burst CR had, or even Bale at his best had.

Bale is perhaps good to demonstrate how dudes who aren't gods of technique can still be effective, but limitations won't necessarily make them any worse for a team playing a certain style. If Bale was fit for at least 30 games a season and didn't sulk 50% of the time when fit, he'd tear this league apart just because he's an athletic freak. He's literally only where he's at right now because of those two reasons and still has over 100 goals in RM shirt.

I find it odd how people automatically find reasons to downplay players who don't have it all and somehow now we're going to wind up talking about Haaland as this plank of wood who runs fast and can do tap-ins but little else. Or if not now then some time in the future. It's silly. Players like Haaland, or Drogba who I think he might be more alike down the line, are immensely valuable and not for their raw skill, but because they're clutch and more often than not, quite ambitious. I'd take Haaland and an entirely different forward as a bench option to give team some flexibility rather than look for guys who absolutely must be able to make every touch perfect and never misplace a pass. But what do I know.

He has a pretty nice burst. Check the first goal today, perfect timing and acceleration(no chance defenseman catches him). He has surprisingly good acceleration too. Maybe not from standing still, but in speed he can speed up very quickly.

My only problem with him is the crowning of him as some generational talent. You see it with too many players these days. Haaland, Sancho, even our very own Ansu lol.

It's as if people don't realize what that word really means and who the true generational talents were.

Right now the ony player in that age group I see as a generational talent is Mbappe. He's just so complete and versatile. Can lead the line, can kill you with pace on the wings, his goalscoring record is brilliant. Has proven it at the big stage for both club and national team. He's physical, very good technical.

Yh, far too much talent misjudgement. That Lyon kid Rayan Cherki is being talked as the best French talent since Hazard. Ffs.

Labelling talented players is out of control sometimes, particularly if they don't play on a big stage consistently.

Its about managing expectations. I am not saying a player like Haaland (or Bale) can not be useful, but I will be damned if he turns out to be Ronaldo 2.0. And I know its not fair to compare him to the very top, but thats merely a consequence of how people talk about him. You would assume he would bring us 10 years+ of doom when he signs for Madrid. The overreaction just annoys me.

Edit: DonAK made the same point 2 posts above ;-)

Don?t have to be Haaland for me even though I like him but almost all successful teams in recent years including ours had two runners in-behind in attack.

Funny thing about Haaland is that I've yet to see him do well at headers coming in from crosses/corners. Being tall doesn't mean you're naturally great at it.

I'd take 1.84m Ramos over most tall players.

His frame kinda tricks into thinking he is your classic shithouse target man, but I've never seen him score with his head. 8 of 10 o his goals are basically him creating space with a run and finishing the resulting 1v1.

I guess its a bit weird to talk about Haaland as a generational talent, because they dont typically start out as strikers anymore, they usually start as some kind of winger/cam or whatever, and move up as striker later.

True. We saw Dembele struggle in Spain. He was great in Germany, but Germany is a paradise for any offensive player. The league is so disorganized in general.

That's why.. We need to be careful when judging players from the Bundesliga. They will ALWAYS look better than they are. There are some gems, but some total bombs too.

The same argument can be basically used for players from any league.

I won't say he's a generational talent but I'll say that if we'll sign Lautaro and Haaland will end up in Madrid we'll be looking for a new striker in two years while Haaland will help winning Madrid multiple CL titles.

The biggest reason Dembele struggle here is not due to his subpar close control, technique etc. Its due to his awful positioning and lack of off ball movement. If he could just play to his strength and run in behind he would be spectacular here. Haaland certainly can that. Who cares if his technique isn?t the best?

That's part of it yes. It probably comes down to professionalism. Haaland is much more professional than Dembele.

I need to see him agaunst parking the bus teams.
Bvb is playing really ofensive, every attacker they have always scored at least 20 goals.

Paco was god in his momemtum

I mean, several of their last few strikers did just fine when they left Dortmund, perhaps its not that easy to score for Dortmund, they`ve just had great strikers?
