Happy for Leo though who should have won many more of such awards in the past. No disputing who the best player in the world has been in the past 10+ years.

ballon d'or is voted now only by biased press, its just a narrative award now, all of these awards are flawed

lets not forget Hazard being named Europa League played of the year by the press even tough he scored only 2 goals and started only 3 or 4 games of the 15 in the competition

at least this award takes into consideration votes from the press, captains, coaches and fans

Holy shit, I expected VVD honestly.

Why? This isn't a media award like bdor. It is voted by team captains and coaches and there was sort of a pattern in the award since 2010.
Coaches and captains would never put VVD over Messi, CR7 was a worthy rival and in some years he benefited from CL winning over Messi (with 2013 as only exception, as he had a great scoring year while Messi was slowed by injuries). Last year people was kind of sick of Messi/CR7 dominance and wanted someone new to win it.
AFAIK media guys actually gave it to VVD, as they are easily persuaded by the hype train

It is awarded by thousands of players out there. A 2nd division player in Indonesian league has equal vote of Messi. FIFA basically can't control it.
Same goes for other awards tbh
