What's wrong with signing someone like Jovic for 50m if possible? I don't understand the complaints? There's no guarantee a better prospect will pop up next year.

Dude 50 or 60 mil is a HUGE amount of money. You sound like we are talking about 5 or 10 mil.

Yes, but we signed Dembele for 105m + 40m in fairly easy incentives based off two good seasons, one of them in France.

It's unfortunately what the market is. Milan were quick and lucky to sign Piatek for 35m.

Quality strikers are rare these days and players like this won't stay 2-3 years at small clubs after blowing up like that.

So either take a risk or don't do anything at all and just pray i guess? I mean i don't want to hype him up as safe world class future Suarez but tbh i also couldn't name a better young striker.

We can't expect to just stumble over a proper Suarez replacement the moment we absolutely need it.

Just watched this, first time I’ve ever watched any clip of him... very impressive.

50m is worth the risk in this market, especially if he turns out to be our number 1 striker. It’ll be peanuts then.

If a world beater comes along next year, which is very doubtful, we'll sell Jovic, recoup our money and go for the imaginary world class striker that doesn't exist at this point. Then again the imaginary striker will also have only one season at the "world class" level.

If you start to wait for value in the transfer market you'll end up like Manchester United around 2010, never spending the money on anyone since they aren't worth whatever fee the asking team wants for them.

I've yet to see a convincing argument on why we shouldn't try to see how he'll do for a couple of years.

Relax everyone, Raketa10 is Croat so that's why he's been hating Jovic move from Barcelona.

We cannot even wait on him. Some other team will sign him. The same will happen with the next hyped one-season wonder. Every team is looking for a long-term CF.

Another option would be Timo Werner, but he's only good for a counter-attacking team IMO.

I get the one season wonder arguments myself. I would take the risk though, and sign someone this season. Can't afford to wait around.

Real Madrid paid 50m for that Brazilian Walcott Vinicius.

Us paying 50m for one of the top 3 striking talents in the world, is a steal when you look at it like this.

I'd understand not trying to sign Jovic now if we'd be given serious signals that the likes of Mbappe will become available this summer but the dude will not move for at least 2 years and we're not even sure that we will be able to convince him to sign for us since everyone and their mother's dog will be after him.

Relying on Suarez being even 80% of what he is now is dangerous business.

It is about how you rate him as a player.
If you think he is good enough for Barca starter for next half decade at least? Yes no reason to complain.
But Barca never really moved on from a player after one year, so if we buy this guy as Suarez replacement and he isn't good enough, we are basically wasting 2 years with mediocre player as a starter (Jovic or old Suarez). Wasting such years in such position has its implications, we aren't in a position to buy cheap with this one, but buy "right". As I said before I would gladly pass on De Ligt and/or sell Coutinho to make money available to solve our striker issue
Same for any striker btw, for example if we were after Werner or my guy Felix but he is the wrong choice, we will be wasting money and time that we can't afford.

regarding last sentence, last year people wanted Griezmann because there is no other alternatives in the market, and no guarantee a better option will come next year. Then this year we are talking about Jovic, Maxi,Felix, Piątek etc

Yes, but we signed Dembele for 105m + 40m in fairly easy incentives based off two good seasons, one of them in France.

Market went crazy in 2017, and then became a bit more sensible. And many still consider what we paid for Dembele huge mistake.
Many/most think it was huge mistake to pay such money and not blow it all on Mpabbe for example. Not like the later was going to happen though.
So again, it is about spending "right".
If you think Jovic is the right guy, you will think it is a bargain and why people complain. If someone doesn't rate him then it is normal he find it a joke that we are after him

I mean if it is up to me I would prefer a more mobile, faster striker, but I cannot think of anyone like that who is available and there's no guarantee we'll find anyone like that available next year or the year after either.

Sooner or later we gotta sign a striker. If not Jovic people should perhaps list alternatives, I dunno.

Personally I like Rafael Leao who plays for Lille, but he's too young and raw to even be in contention right now.
