Clement Lenglet (loaned to Aston Villa)

Finally rewarded for his good work on offensive corners. He's been looking more and more threatening on these, which the team needs a lot.

His long ball to set up the 4th Suarez goal in the Classico was so good.

Valverde has got to love Lenglet. His new Laporte.
You know I never thought of it that way.

Considering both are LCBs and both are French and the only real differences between them are Height (1.86) for Lenglet and (1.91) Laporte and age with Lenglet being a year younger (23) vs (24) for Laporte.

We all talk about interesting battles for Spots in the lineup, but the Umtiti vs Lenglet one is rather fascinating. Both have their pros and cons but both are so good at their best. Unless Valverde starts thinking using Lenglet as a RCB, the choice between the two will be pretty tough once Umtiti comes back and gets match fit.

I think Lenglet has the advantage of not suffering any bad injury issues as Umtiti has had.

But honestly umtiti is in another level. Maybe a change in future to RCB for lenglet is a better choice for us. We can't expect valverde to pick lenglet ahead of umtiti.

I don't know man, bar that one red card Lenglet has been flawless. He's got world-class potential as well. Great signing.

If you sign de Ligt you could also play 3 at the back with him, Umtiti and Lenglet.

Pique should be demoted to 4th choice.

Potential and product are different. I believe umtiti's best form is hardly to get now for lenglet. Maybe some day. But not now. Umtiti's performance in his first El clasico(bernabeu) was actually unbelievable. I'm happy that we have lenglet. It's cash in pocket for us. But expecting valverde to play him ahead of umtiti isn't something that i go for it.

P.s: hope i made my point. curse the language differences.

Both Umtiti and Lenglet have their pros and flaws.

Umtiti is perhaps more agile, better on the ball in terms of short passing and being able to break through the lines and has a lot more experience than Lenglet and the man is a WC winner as well.

Lenglet is better with long balls and is a couple of inches taller and despite his lanky looking frame he is perhaps better than Umtiti at handling tall and strong physical Forwards and the man seems to have a knack at finding the ball in setpieces.

Umtiti is a beast but Lenglet himself is no slouch either both have their pros and cons.

True. I think Lenglet would have been the better fit for that roma game while Umtiti is more suited to teams who like to sit back and counter.

Yeah I mean Umtiti is great but Lenglet himself is also really good.

Which baffles me why teams like United didn't bother to put much of an effort to actually try and sign Lenglet. I mean the player has a choice obviously, but 35 Million euro release clause, 23 years old and a good prospect and great on the ball.

Instead, they chased guys like Alderweirld, Maguire, and Varane at one point. Varane was no way going to leave Real, and both Leceister and the Spurs were asking a lot of money for the other two. Hell, I forgot they even chased Umtiti as well.:lol:

Umtit was great option for them, that makes sense.

Oh yeah I think Lenglet would have been great for them. The only explanation that I could think of why they didn't push harder was because he wanted to come to barca/stay in La Liga rather than go to United (smart man ;) ). Other than that, it would have been stupid of United not to go for him for the characteristics you mentioned of Lenglet. We are lucky to have both Lenglet and Umtiti and bought them at reasonable prices and with age on their side!

Lets be honest. Its far too early to conclude about Lenglet who has yet to be really tested and mostly just played when we've had midfield control.
