you seem a little bit optimistic, actually i think Messi almost certainly will miss the podium. Ronaldo, Modric and one french player as podium is pretty much locked.

Messi is the most technical player on the planet and he proves that almost every game, but he has not won any major international/continental competition since 2015. The romantic days of Nedved or Rivaldo winning Ballon d'Or without lifting CL or World Cup are over. In the past it was about individual performance, nowadays it is a travesty award.

I think Messi is still going to be on the The Best podium, he still won the domestic double and the golden boot. For France, I don't think there was just one player who stood out from the rest and it was really a great team performance from all of them so I don't think Griezmann and Mbappe will be the top 3. I think it's gonna be CR7 1st, Messi 2nd and Modric 3rd.

Individual awards shouldn't and couldn't be the criteria to judge the quality of the player, when you know how heavily market based they've become.
Ronaldo knows how to seize the opportunity and how to get all the publicity, while Messi simply doesn't give a shit about it.
And this team doesn't have that dominant players that previous Barcelona used to have.
Puyol, Masche, Alves, Xavi, Villa, Eto'o were stallions, I don't think we have any now.

The Ballon D'Or is the actual relevant award, and the award that everyone talks about.
It's the traditional award with a long history. You never hear players talk about FIFA's "The Best" award. It's always the journalists voted, France Football Ballon D'Or.

Its not Fifa Ballon dor's anymore isn't it . I would rather value award from Fifa rather than a award which is given by a french magazine . Yes it does have a history of more than 4 decades . But majority of the ballon dor winners were from Europe or either played in Europe as it was the rule ( i am not sure whether that rule still exists or not ) . Maradona & Pele didn't won it mainly because of that . In 1986 world cup performance wasn't a criteria and he didn't won that year .

I'm fairly sure alot of Ronaldo fans come from countries new to the game. Alot of these new fans didn't grow up in a football culture and don't really understand what makes a truly great genius player. They look at stats above ability. Most people who grew up watching the game and fully understand football like myself know Messi is the better player and better to watch
