Christian Eriksen

Obviously I don't watch every single Tottenham's game but the few ones I saw (between 5 and 10) I saw him play super high which I didn't like honestly because I always imagine him at Barca. With Denmark he clearly played CAM though. Now if you tell me that he mainly plays as RCM with Spurs, then fuck yeah let's bring him.
But from what I saw, he likes to play high just like Coutinho.

EDIT: Ok I just checked and I was right he played mostly as CAM and ARM which is RW basically. When he plays ARM/RW he switches a lot with Dele who is CAM. So I don't know what you mean by "RM" but in Valverde's 442 the most similar position to the one he played at with Spurs last season would be the one we have Dembélé and Malcom for. Eriksen is not a CM and he's not a controlling midfielder as I was saying. No point in buying him right now.

Eriksen RW  you even said you only watched 5-10 games... watch some more instead of looking at lineups online

It depends on what Valverde's intentions are. If he plans to play Coutinho in the midfield, there is no point of buying Eriksen. But, if he wants to use Coutinho on LW, I would move Rakitić to LCM, get Eriksen and play him as RCM. Barca always played with one more attacking CM and one more deep CM.

But if we get him, he would give amazing flexibility to the team. In 4-3-3, 4-4-2 diamond or 4-4-2 flat.

Well if you read different pre season interviews, it seems clear that Valverde will continue with 2 DM's, which means 442 or 4231 at best. Either way, Eriksen would have to play wide cause he's not a DM, he's not even a CM.
In a 433 though I agree Eriksen could fit but only with a controlling midfielder, which we don't have tbh except Arthur (who's young and who's a beginner in european football). But in the exact same way, I believe we can play 433 with Busquets - controlling midfielder - Coutinho as the more attacking midfielder. That's why I said we don't need Eriksen since we have Coutinho.

No I actually watched his heatmaps, that's in addition to the 5-10 games I saw by myself when he always played as CAM/AMR (ARM = RW, Eriksen playing as a wide playmaker on the right wing doesn't change that fact). But good try. ;)

And how many heat maps did you have to look at to come to the conclusion he's a RW? Have you watched him consistently over the last 3/4 years? No. You've watched 5-10 games...

Eriksen floats all over the pitch, left side, right side, drops deep centrally and hardly ever more advanced than Dele Alli.

Well you know what I was trying to say is that ARM in a 4231 is closer to RW than to RDM or RCM. My point was: Eriksen isn't a central midfielder, he's an attacking midfielder. Our ARM would be Dembélé and Malcom. Btw RM doesn't mean anything, you have to define if you're talking about a wide midfielder or a central midfielder.

The way I see it.
DM's: Busquets, Casemiro, Kanté, Matic.
CM's: Xavi, Kroos, Thiago, Pjanic, Verratti, Pogba.
CAM's: Coutinho, Eriksen, James, Ozil, Mata, Isco.
Players like Iniesta & Modric are perfect mix between CM and CAM, but it's not Eriksen's case, just like Coutinho he's attracted too much to the front. So in Valverde's 442, he'd have to play wide, even though sometimes he really plays as a RCM. Even Iniesta who's less attacking than Eriksen had to play wide in the 442. Coutinho too played LCM at Liverpool under Klopp, still played wide in the 442.

As I said if we're talking about 433, our CAM would/should be Coutinho and there is no way Valverde will play 433 with a Busquets-Coutinho-Eriksen midfield. There needs to be a controlling CM in the trio. That's why I think we don't need Eriksen even though he's a fantastic player. We could have bought him instead of Coutinho but there is no point in having both for 300+ million euros.

My point was that what we need a CM, not a CAM. Because we have a world class CAM, and we lack world class CM. If you believe that Eriksen can be a disciplined CM, then good for you.

Might really want to keep a close eye on this guy given his contract situation and the currently direction of their sporting project.

Zero signings made by Spurs over the transfer window while their rivals (Arsenal and Chelsea) have strengthened quite a bit. Shambolic really.

I'd be shocked if City and Liverpool didn't make the CL but the other two spots are up for grabs between United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs and don't think Spurs are favorites at all.

Let's see though, if he doesn't renew his contract over the season and Spurs don't make CL football next year, it would be a HUGE opportunity.

When does his contract actually expire?

2020 for now, although Spurs are trying to extend his contract, now that they've done it with Kane and Alli. If he's thinking of joining either Barca or Madrid, he'll probably have to hold off on the extension this season and assess the situation next summer.

I think he's going to end up at Madrid while we have more chances of getting Pogba within the next 2 seasons.
