Ernesto Valverde - V1

EV is certainly staying next season, no question about it.

At this point I'm firmly on the Xavi train for our next coach. It worked for us with Pep (and Lucho, to an extent), it worked for RM with Zidane. At this point when the team needs to start completely fresh tactically and be inspired/motivated by a commanding presence, what other better option is there?

As Zidane has shown it's not just about the experience and tactical nous of the coach but also the dynamic between the coach and the players to get the very best out of them when the team needs it. EV simply does not get the best out of our players week in week out.

If we don’t count Dembele and Coutinho Fernandez literally had ONE good buy and that’s Umtiti so no he is not being sucked because of the reason you mentioned. He bought Gomes, Paco, Mina...Should I continue? I won’t cry many tears over Robert.

Well again, board has been saved by 2015 treble and problems multiplied since. That guy was sacked as a scapegoat too. Barto's priorities lie in collecting trophies in the Messi era, not the time beyond showing how little emphasis is put onto the La Masia and matching the right coach to keep rebuilding project going. Valverde probably isn't that, but then again, he wasn't really afforded the opportunity to do so and works with what he's given.

The board have gone full on Ramon Calderon since circa 2013.

Calderon didn't have near the same success. It's true that the plans are short to medium term, and the long term ones aren't as lucid.

Bring Xavi as Assitant Manager. He will command respect from the players and can bench anyone.

Barto can do one good job that might make us forgive his fuck ups. Convince Xavi to come back, fuck Qatar and their Wc agenda. Barca is his blood, not Qatar.

Zidane has had fair bit of luck as well.

This season almost to a man folk said Real had the better squad than Barca and by a long way.

Real have not been better coached across this season.

Xavi needs to prove it somewhere else even within the club. Which is the difference between him, Zidane, Lucho and Pep.

Xavi could well be being groomed for PSG job anyway.

I do think, as Wolfe said before, that some players like Suarez have a bit too much influence over the manager and the dressing room. The dressing room should have one leader. The captain, not 4-5 different ones.

Of course there is something rotten in the managment too. Rotting from Pep Segura and Barto downwards.

Barca has always been great at rebuilding. But, sadly, I felt more optimistic last summer than now. It's still fresh though... enough about me.

Our players are too reserved for my liking. So unmotivated, that's what strikes me. And no, it's not only up to the manager. I feel like they are nostgic and won't do much. Look at Coutinho today, he's got the hunger.

Ah, everything's rotten, it seems

Would be great to have Setien + Xavi for 2 years, than Xavi as first team manager.

Xavi as a coach may work for us..But this board would probably go and get some one incompetent...

The truth is however we were quite lucky this season to have got anything with our current squad.. Real having a poor start plus Messi rescuing us in countless games really polished EV's as well as our squad's resume more than it warranted.. I hope the year after next we do have a proper rebuild since i don't expect much to happen next year with the present board and coach(cant expect Messi to bail us every year plus i think the players are not 100% behind EV's tactics)..

Xavi won’t come back so soon since he said will stay in Qatar for 2 more years, apparently money is in his blood more than anything.

Also true. Madrid went up vs Juve showing the same lack of focus as us, but got lucky with that pen. Their team was complacent a lot of times as well this season. But Zidane is in his 3rd season. Valverde is in his first.

Conservative? What the hell? Will you again mention Sarri? The guy who never won anything? The guy who lost everything again this year?

Yes just like Pep and Lucho. Both didn't win anything but managed Barca.

Sarri is doing a fantastic job giving his limited resources at Napoli. What did EV do to deserve the hot seat?

EV? Nothing! I never thought that appointing him would be a good idea. I never liked him and I was against him from day one.

Sarri is a 60 years old guy and not talented young manager like Pep was so please don’t compare those two.
